Art books

I’ve recently found out I’ll be working less hours this year, and I’ve decided to put my extra time into art. I’ve already got ‘The Creative Act’ and ‘The Artist’s Way’ which always seem to be recommended.
Are there any other art theory books that come highly recommended?

Online course recommendations

I’ve just found out I will be working less hours at work from now on, and I’ve decided that instead of being annoyed I’m going to use the time to do more art! Has anyone done an online course that they would really recommend? I’m open to basically learning anything and everything.

Insurance for chronic illness

Has anyone found an insurance company that doesn't immediately try to blame every single issue on your immune disorder? I want to change mine because they've tried to link everything, even bacterial infections.. it's been an infuriating year having to argue constantly.
(I live internationally, so worldwide coverage is needed but don’t need the US)

What is happening to the colour?

I rented a Canon Powershot VI to play around with in an art gallery today. When I view the photos on the camera or as a file preview, the colours look normal, but when I open them up in Affinity Photo, the colours have all changed. Does anyone know why?

Is it possible to use oil paints in a sketchbook?

I want to learn how to use oil paints, but I move around a lot and having a big pile of canvasses wouldn’t be practical. Is there a way to prime paper that it will hold oil? Or something else?

Would a Fujifilm X-T30 be a good travel camera?

(1)

  1. Budget, country, and currency:

Living in Vietnam now, but travel a lot so could pick it up on a trip somewhere. Currently in Australia, if that would be the better option. Less than $2000 USD would be great, but could push a bit higher if needed.

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs?
Currently have a Canon EOS 600D and a variety of lenses, and it’s just too big and heavy of a system for when I’m travelling and trekking. I want something lightweight that I can basically take with me everywhere.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?
Mostly travel photos - landscapes and city scenes, but the occasional wildlife shot when I have the opportunity to do so.

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?
Primarily for photography, but I have recently started filming short art videos too.

Is underexposing photos actually good advice?

I’m a beginner photographer and read online that it’s best to slightly underexpose so you can bring details out from the shadows, but when I do that my photos turn out grainy. Is the advice wrong or is there something else I need to do?

Road trip tips

Will be driving from Jervis Bay down to Narooma later this week. Will definitely be stopping in Bateman’s Bay, but are there any other stops that you would recommend along the way?

I saw my favourite painting in the world in Tokyo last week, and it was the best possible surprise a trip could have! (Starfish, by Andrew Wyeth)
