This Ferrari of the ocean, distributed by Chicken of the Sea, is sweet and light, with an oil that adds to the moistness of the fish without taking away from the flavor. This was a new tin to me but I could absolutely see it being a sub for tuna any day of the week. Huge thanks to Bryan at PopTopTinnedFish on TikTok for sending this cool can over for me to try! 🥰

Review: Donostia Foods Squid in American Sauce

8/10
Very meaty squid! The chew and flavor was super addictive and I couldn’t put this tin down till it was gone. The sauce is a little less sweet and leans a bit more savory and herbaceous. All in all another winner winner tinned fish dinner. Thank youuuuuu TinnedfishwithTyler!

Review: Sardeles Spicy Sardines in Vegetable Oil

6.5-7/10
Brought back from Greece, printed in Greek. But this tin was produced and packaged in Portugal! Trata still makes my favorite “Greek” tins, but this was a worthy competitor. Oil not as rich and fish a bit mushier. Not much spice but it did build as I finished the tin.

Review: Conservas Braseadas Gueyumar, Chargrilled Sardine Loins

If you’re in Boston, walk don’t run to Wine and Cheese Cask to pick these up. If you’re not in Boston, find them, order them, eat them.

$27 was a small price to pay for instant teleportation to a European wine bar on the beach.

Review: Matiz Spicy Tomato Mackerel

7.5/10
Delicate and nuanced tin with a well balanced tomato sauce. Not much spice to speak of. But the meaty, flakey fish is delicious regardless!

Mushy, bitter, very little Mediterranean flavor. And while I normally wouldn’t complain, the little head didn’t help matters 😵

Thanks to everyone who pointed out my audio problems! Really hoping I fixed it on this one, please let me know!

As for the tin, the birch syrup satisfied my sweet tooth while not being overpowering. That along with the fatty skin and flakey flesh made a salmon candy experience like no other! The smoke balanced it all out too.

Thank you Bryan at PoptopTinnedFish on TikTok for this one!

Part one of the Rainbow Tomatoes Garden Side by Side by Side Bundle: Smallest of Sprats and the Biggest of Sardines!

These BIG Spanish Pilchards are buttery and firm, yet flaky and complex. Don’t know how it took me so long to try this tin! Glad Rainbow Tomatoes Garden had this comparison bundle that bought my eye!

Strong 7/10

Big tin of little fishies.

Heavy smoke and beautiful fish. A little softer and more acrid than some of my other favorite smoked Latvian brislings (love you Polar 😘). But a great tin in its own right!

I’ve been obsessed with cottage cheese since I was a kid. And when I started strength training as a teen in the 90’s, it was the go to pre-bed snack for that slow digesting casein protein. Combining cottage cheese, with one of my go-to-tunas, and lots of gut healthy fibers and probiotics just made sense for an easy quick snack. It’d be a meal if there were some dang carbs :)

1 tin Fishwife Albacore Tuna with Spanish lemon

25g cottage cheese

2 Tbs kimchi

Pickles, mustard, hot sauce, furikake

Toss over mixed greens!

About 300 calories, 25g protein, 10g carbs, 13g fat, 7g fiber

A perfect smoked trout! From the presentation, to the flavors, the textures, EVERYTHING! Absolutely blown away by the quality and depth of this tin. So well balanced and so complex. Run don’t walk to get you some of this.

Lesson learned (maybe), if you’re going to try to eat the world’s stinkiest fish, get it from a reputable source.

Committed to having a Surstromming sandwich. So where do I get something other than a tin of gooey bones?

Took me right back to Japan! Perfect smoke and sweet scallops that melt in your mouth. Made to go with alcohol and did in fact provide a delicious pairing to my dry sake. Love the little graphic that tells you which alcohol to eat it with. Huge thanks to Tyler for this incredible treat!
