Things I've noticed about Belos
Random character bits that I found interesting or at least notable. Notably these don't condone any of his actions. He was a bad guy and I'm glad he got taken down. Best day for the Boiling Isles..it's just stuff I noticed about his character and found interesting.
For a man from the 17th century puritan, at least he wasn't homophobic or transphobic. I mean yes he's a Bigot that believes that humans are superior. He embodies a fanatical form of speciesism and xenophobia. But like for a puritan he's just like "cool be gay idc" but in that more. Belosy way.
For a puritan, he lacks any real sexism. And it's actually rather refreshing. Like he elevates a lot of lady witches into status of power and doesn't ever look down on Luz for being a girl. Like out of all the villains I've seen in media. A 17th century puritan is one of the people I would expect to have a lesser view of women. Belos is like "nah, ladies in power." Gets attacked by Luz and sees she's an actual threat. Takes her seriously. Even when he's finally losing. He never once makes it about her gender. Not gonna lie it's actually quite nice. Very pleasant surprise. It's refreshing.
The amount of stubborn one has to be. To be submerged into an entire culture..to learn it's magical ways, to actively practice and use their magic systems and culture. To become politically involved in their world, to become their emperor. and STILL CHOOSE HATE. He was involved for 400+ years. In that time he did all of that..but some how. SOME HOW. Stuck to his morals of seeing everyone but himself as evil and in need of erasure. 400+ years. Fully immersed in their ways, their magic whole shebang and not once did he go. "Wow, we're not so different after all." And begin to change his heart. Not once.....that is commitment and stubbornness. Just holy hell that is commitment. And on one hand it's disturbingly impressive. On the other. How? How do you get so involved in all that and spend that long with people and still go "nah, smoke em" like how? How do you spend that long among all that and not have a change of heart? That's some serious stubbornness.
For someone that lived as long as he did. And was let's be honest as strong and smart as he was.... He's kinda dumb. Like what was his plan when he got back to the human world? With no magic to keep him going. He would have died instantly. Just pft puff of old dust. And no one. Not even Luz questions that. Like what happens if it was his original form and he just walked through the door. And also 400+ years is a long time. The culture shock alone would have sent him to the grave.... Or to like Ares 51? But what exactly was his plan for when he got back?
