Electric Mist | Generative Ambient in VCV Rack (Eno's On Land & Apollo)

Electric Mist is a fully generative ambient patch built entirely in VCV Rack — largely inspired by Brian Eno's On Land and Apollo.

Everything here is quantized to C natural minor, so nothing resolves or cadences — it just drifts. Two Plaits engines (particle noise + wavetable) layer with FM operators for the core textures, while Marbles and Weave occasionally let chord-like, piano-ish tones leak in over a moody bass drone.

Clairaudient: Two Oscillators, Formants & Reverse Sync

Clairaudient is a unique dual oscillator for VCV Rack that goes far beyond a conventional oscillator.

With independent V/Oct inputs for its two oscillators, you can use completely different CV sequences or melodies for V and Z, essentially turning one module into two independently pitched oscillators.

Its pitch-locked Formant section adds another layer of unusual timbral movement, while Reverse Sync, probabilistic reversal, stereo Width, and polyphony make it capable of surprisingly complex and evolving sounds.

In this video, I explore what makes Clairaudient interesting, how its two oscillators interact, and some of the sounds you can get from its unusual architecture.

Transform Live Radio into Tim Hecker-Inspired Ambient | VCV Rack

This is one of the most unusual ways to create ambient music in VCV Rack.

Instead of starting with oscillators or samples, this patch uses antN from the Bidoo collection to stream live internet radio directly into the rack. Speech, nature recordings and broadcasts become evolving textures through granular synthesis, lush reverbs and atmospheric drones.

In this video you'll see how a simple talk radio station gradually transforms into a cinematic ambient soundscape inspired by the textural approach of artists like Tim Hecker.

Modules used:

• antN (Bidoo) – Live internet radio streamer
• Draen – Drone generator
• Mutable Instruments Clouds – Granular synthesis
• Befaco Iroi – Reverb
• Befaco STMix – Mixer

Generative Ambient with SIROCCO | A Living Ecosystem as Modulation in VCV Rack

In this video, I build a generative ambient patch around SIROCCO, a new premium module from the CV FUNK Sands collection for VCV Rack. Instead of traditional modulation, SIROCCO simulates a living ecosystem where grass grows, locust populations rise and fall, rain reshapes the landscape, and wind carries seeds across a dynamic environment. Those ecological processes become evolving control voltages that continuously shape the music.

We'll use these naturally evolving signals to shape melodies, timbre, dynamics, and atmosphere, creating an ambient patch that slowly transforms without obvious repetition.

This isn't a step-by-step beginner tutorial—it's a demonstration of how SIROCCO can become the heart of an organic generative patch.

Concerto for Four Pony VCOs & Iroi — An All-Befaco VCV Rack Patch

An all-Befaco patch in VCV Rack: three Muxlicers sequencing four Pony VCOs, blended through an STMix and sent into Iroi's reverb — structured and performed like a chamber piece. Think of it as a concerto: four "voices" (the VCOs), a triple-sequencer "conductor" (the Muxlicers), and a shared acoustic space (Iroi) tying it all together.

Built entirely from Befaco's official VCV Rack modules — free, software recreations of their real Eurorack hardware — so if you own the physical Muxlicer, Pony VCO, STMix, or Iroi, this patch translates directly to hardware too.

WRITTEN BY GRAVITY | Physics Composes Ambient Music (VCV Rack)

In this patch, I use the new Gravity module by SignalFunctionSet—a multi-mode chaos and motion engine that transforms simulated physical systems into musical control voltages. Instead of a traditional sequencer, Gravity generates evolving CV and gate signals from chaotic motion, which are quantized to the Mixolydian scale and sent to multiple FM operators, creating an ever-changing ambient composition.

A Modular Patch That Composes Like a Pianist — UZZ + Random CV

A Modular Patch That Composes Like a Pianist — UZZ + Random CV

This VCV Rack patch sounds like a two-handed piano composition — but nobody's playing it. A fixed, hand-programmed sequence from Animatek UZZ acts as the left-hand comp, while a random CV melody — generated live and quantized to a scale — plays the right-hand line, all voiced through Valley Terrorform, Befaco EvenVCO, Chronoblob2 delay, and Valley Plateau reverb.

The comp voice never changes: it's a fixed set of steps programmed directly into UZZ. The melody is the opposite — random voltage passed through a quantizer locked to a major pentatonic scale, so it's different every run, but always in key. That contrast — one voice fixed, one voice generative — is what gives the patch its "composed" feel even though half of it is being written in real time.

How to Make Berlin School Sequences in VCV Rack | Befaco Muxlicer + Delay Tricks

Starting with a simple three-note sequence (C–G–C), you'll learn how sequencer transposition and clock-synchronized delay create evolving melodies inspired by Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze.

In this lesson you'll build two patch variations:

Patch 1:
Two Befaco Muxlicers + Chronoblob2 delay. A second Muxlicer transposes the original sequence while synchronized delay creates rhythmic echoes that turn three notes into a flowing arpeggio.

Patch 2:
The same Berlin School concept using the 4ms Dual Looping Delay (DLD). Instead of simple repeats, the DLD creates layered looping phrases and evolving melodic textures while preserving the minimalist sequence.

A simple three-note sequence (C–G–C) is all you need to create hypnotic modular melodies.

Making Ambient Music with Euclidean Sequences – Generative VCV RACK patch

Compact two-voice patch built around Bogaudio FM-Op. A JW SimpleClock drives a Count Modula Euclid pattern and global sync. The Euclid’s CV Expander feeds two Fundamental Quantizers (Voice A ≈ major scale; Voice B ≈ major pentatonic).

Voice A (rhythmic): Quantizer → FM-Op → Chronoblob2 (tempo-sync on) → Audio.

Voice B (pad/melodic bed): Quantizer → FM-Op → Valley Plateau (plate reverb) → Audio.
Clock also resets Euclid and syncs Chronoblob; Euclid gates the second FM-Op. Moderate FM feedback adds harmonics; antialias options enabled on both operators.

Perform/modify: change Euclid length/hits/shift, switch quantizer scales, adjust Chronoblob mix/time, and Reverb size/decay for more space.

Modules used: JW SimpleClock, Count Modula Euclid + CV Expander, Fundamental Quantizer ×2, Bogaudio FM-Op ×2, Alright Devices Chronoblob2, Valley Plateau, Core Audio.
