I run an English-language music site that covers the former Yugoslavia and the modern Balkan scene. Recently, I put the long weekend to good use by creating this detailed genre map of past and present music from the region. It picked up some traction on Instagram, so I thought I'd share it here as well... :)
Almost every major genre from the 1960s up until the present day is covered and connected. Feel free to start anywhere and follow the arrows; if you're new to the scene, then I'd suggest following the 'Start here' label.
One glaring omission is obviously hip hop, which I've put off exploring until recently. I find the language barrier particularly hard to overcome when exploring hip hop due to the slang, wordplay, etc, so I'd like to spend more time with it before committing to a canon.

Hey everyone! This is a one-year moderation transparency update.
Because of how lovely everyone is, there hasn't been much to share here from a moderation standpoint. I went through manually and checked the past year of reports and removal reasons to make some useful edits to the community.
I have edited down the amount of rules on the sidebar. This was done to encourage reading the rules and eliminate repetition.
- The rule about crediting original creators was removed. It felt too obvious in today's internet culture and has never been an issue. If posting stolen art becomes an issue on the sub, the rule will return. The accounts guilty of this are almost always caught by reddit's filters for spamming and removed from the platform [example].
If your art was stolen, you can still report posts for this.
- The rule about flair being required was removed. This is now handled by the subreddit requiring flair when you post.
- The rule "no unsafe/illegal content" was removed. This was covered by reddit side-wide rules. If you need to report a post for this, you can use the sitewide options.
A majority of reports on are related to Rule 3: No spam or external self-promotion. I have changed the wording to make it clear how this rule will be moderated:
>No surveys, apps, mail clubs, discords, affiliate links, "See link in my bio", blog spam, dropshipping, or any other types of external self-promotion.
>This subreddit is not meant for promoting your accounts on other platforms.
>If you are an active contributor with a small business, please message us via modmail to get our stamp of approval before posting. Members with small businesses must contribute to the community in good faith prior to applying.
This will not affect the majority of members here. It is how we were already enforcing the rule, but now it is explicitly stated. The intention is to cut down on spammers and people posting their products as promotion under the guise of getting "feedback from the community".
A few times it has escalated to harassing the mod team, which is both inappropriate and bad for morale.
There is a clear pathway described for small businesses who are active community members to be celebrated, and this rule is not meant to target our many community members who happen to have online shops or side-gigs.
Based on how often this rule is used for reports, everyone wants to see more quality contributions from other members and less undisclosed advertisements. And honestly, if you are the sort of person who is reading this far in to a mod update on the subreddit rules, you will likely only see the benefit from this change.
I also created Rule 7: No "Traveling Journals":
>We do not have the bandwidth to moderate people sharing their personal address or directing others off the reddit platform. Please see other subs for this, like r/travelingjournals
>Completed spreads from traveling journals are welcome!
The logic here is for the act of creating a group and gathering addresses to occur elsewhere and we get to see the completed spreads. This rule has been added purely from a logic and safety standpoint, this is an all ages international subreddit and it doesn't make sense to expend moderator effort on hosting these threads.
u/roranicusrex has done a great job setting up the r/travelingjournals community, please go populate it if you are interested in creating / making a group! I'm excited to see some of the completed spreads back over here when groups are connected.
