To Kill a Mockingbird, Ch 6 start

I’m reading to kill a mockingbird, and I’m on the start of Chapter 6. I can’t seem to understand what’s going on in the first few pages and wanted to ask for help in figuring out what’s going on. Could someone help here?

  1. Is it supposedly hot this night? Why would Jem mention the moon making it hotter?

Is this some kind of normal southern slang?

  1. What does “Cross in it tonight” mean? I am thinking a lady in the Moon means some lady illuminated by the moonlight, but where exactly is this cross coming from?

  2. Scout starts talking about some performance made by Mr Avery, and then all she ends up talking about is some kind of 10 foot water spout, and then the story moves on the dare to go to Radley’s place. I just feel like I’m missing a page of content here, unless what she’s saying is Mr Avery spat some water out? That part wasn’t clear to me.

If anyone is able to discuss these with me, would be appreciated.

Air purifier causing sore throat?

I got an air purifier with a H13 HEPA filter for my bedroom ~30m^3 mostly to clear out weird smells coming from the street into my room. I’ve noticed it does do a good job at removing some odours, but when I leave it on overnight, even at a low settings, I end up waking up with a sore throat that then lasts for up to a week.

Is anyone else getting this, and have you found a solution?

How does nested object referencing work from Part Design to Spreadsheet?

I'm new to using FreeCAD, and I'm a bit confused on the rules behind object referencing, especially for references that are 'nested'.

For example, say I have the following object, with a selected green edge. I've used Part Design + Sketcher, and the initial Width is defined as 130mm (what is shown in green) from within sketcher, back from my original Sketch made of the design, labelled 'Width'.

https://preview.redd.it/prhcttfpwf4h1.png?width=1089&format=png&auto=webp&s=a5543f4a48bd8a3007788060320e8c4e4f47a5a0

I now want to reference this edge in a Spreadsheet, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I'd assume that it would be found via: =main.Pad.Sketch.Width, as that's where it's defined, but even main.Pad isn't showing up in the available options.

Are there any suggestions for where this edge can be found or generally how to reach references like main.Pad.Pocket004.example or similar?

555 astable timer not functioning as expected

I'm trying to set-up an astable 555 timer (pg 10 of datasheet: LM555 Timer datasheet (Rev. D)), but keep having issues getting it to work as expected, and don't know what could be the issue.

When powering on, it immediately outputs a voltage through pin 3, and then continuously outputs 0V afterwards.

The wiring looks like what the diagram shows (Fig. 14), but I get the same result with different chips/capacitors.

Are there any suggestions for how to debug and fix this issue?

For reference the resistor to pin 7 is 100Ω and to pin 6 is 680kΩ, so I should be expecting a duty cycle of roughly a second. I've also tied pin 5 via a 0.01uF capacitor, pin2 uses a 1uF capacitor, and pin4 to VCC=5V.

The wiring is also similar to the ben eater version: https://youtu.be/kRlSFm519Bo?si=oFdLxvM4qK2Xt7O0&t=1447.

Higher quality image: [IMG-1110.jpg](https://postimg.cc/tY7r7ZKv)

I am recreating a circuit I saw online that was using an SN74LS32N chip. It was using one of the OR gates to make a latch. For some reason, I can't recreate the example. For reference, the bottom left pin is VCC, top right is GND, and 3 bottom right from bottom to up is A, B, and OUT for an OR switch.

The green LED turns on when I apply 5V power to the system, even when the button is not pressed. In fact, I could even remove the button entirely, and it'll still turn on. I'm not sure what is happening, it's as if the chip is supplying the voltage on its own. I tried a 10K and 51K resistor before the A port but that's not doing anything.

Any suggestions for what could be going on?

The source I am trying to recreate is: https://youtu.be/KM0DdEaY5sY?si=WwS5PJCKMun\_c51Y&t=125. From what I can tell the wiring is identical to it.
