Seeing Textures and Surfaces along the coast

I have always had an interest in textures and surfaces. Beautiful details are found in everyday surfaces. Living by the sea, I find the wide variety of textures and surfaces along the coast a must for photography.

Abstract textures, shapes and surfaces within sails

I love photographing textures, shapes and surfaces, be it rusty metal or fabric. The images below are ideas for paintings and prints I will look at creating over Autumn / Winter.

Beautiful Lunchtime Sailing in Cowes Captured in Pictures

I love going out at lunchtime with my camera, wandering along Cowes Parade towards Egypt Point, soaking up the sun, sail and atmosphere.

Tennyson Down – better to have loved this Down than never loved at all.

Whenever I walk up Tennyson Down, camera to hand, I enjoy seeing the dramatic panoramic views of The Solent’s western approach, meeting the English Channel, as well as the sweeping coastal landscapes.

(TD023) - As I was strolling down from the monument, I saw these old pieces of farm equipment in the distance. I really like the warm visuals of the rusty red metal against the yellow brush and green canopy backdrop.

Have you sat on this bench looking out to sea?

(TD014) – I love the simplicity of this image. The lonely bench gets my photographic mind thinking of all the amazing stories and sights likely experienced by all those who have sat here.

Tennyson Down – better to have loved this Down than never loved at all.

Whenever I walk up Tennyson Down, camera to hand, I enjoy seeing the dramatic panoramic views of The Solent's western approach, meeting the English Channel, as well as the sweeping coastal landscapes.

The Downs rise to over 146 meters (482 feet) above sea level, so you can imagine the breathtaking rolling countryside, striking, bright-white chalk ridges and spectacular seascape view.

Translucent Beautiful Compass Jellyfish in Cowes

The Compass Jellyfish is native to UK waters.

As we were walking along the coast in Cowes, my friend pointed out a jellyfish; she said it was a Compass jellyfish (Chrysaora hysoscella). The jellyfish was calmly moving in the water. This type of Jellyfish is native to UK water.

Bembridge’s Living Stronghold: A Fascinating Isle of Wight History Guide

Perched dramatically atop Bembridge Down on the eastern edge of the Isle of Wight, Bembridge Fort stands as a monument to 19th-century military ingenuity and national defense. Overlooking the sea with sweeping views of Sandown Bay, the fort is an enduring symbol of Britain’s Victorian-era response to foreign threats—built not in direct reaction to war, but from the anxiety of one. Today, its silent walls echo the voices of soldiers, engineers, and now, conservationists, as its legacy shifts from martial utility to heritage preservation.

Bembridge Windmill Captures My Imagination

I have a soft spot for Bembridge Windmill. Not in a “let’s read the information board and move on” way, but in a stand there longer than necessary, watching nothing happen, somehow feeling like that’s the point kind of way.
