Now we wait

I don't quite know what to do with myself tonight. My book is launching on KDP and IngramSpark on Sunday, and I'm running out of ideas on what to do.

I'm currently waiting for proof copies from Ingram and KDP, I've already posted everywhere I can about ARCs, I have some promo images ready to go for launch day. I've been engaging others on social as well.

I could start promo'ing preorders, but it's so close to launch day I question spending the time on it.

Where else would my time be well spent at this moment?

[Complete][73k][Adult queer thriller] Seeking in the Darkness

Hi all! I’m looking for 2-3 beta readers for my complete thriller with a blind queer FMC. I am hoping to get feedback within a month, which I know is tight. Below is a summary and ch 1 excerpt.

TW domestic violence, stalking

Please DM if you’re interested!

——-

Summary

At thirty-two, Sandy is a formidable blind programmer who has just realized she’s being watched. Then came the quirks in her day that she could easily brush off: familiar footsteps of someone she couldn’t see, a scent she recognized but couldn’t place, and silent phone calls carrying the echo of her surroundings.

Refusing to live her life questioning every scent and sound around her, Sandy vows to confront the source of these events head-on. But first, she has to find them. With just her assistive tech, her digital skills, and a whole lot of gumption, Sandy jumps into the cyber world to pinpoint the culprit’s location.

Sandy must decide how many laws she’s willing to break and how much danger she’s willing to face to be free from the reign of terror.

First 400 words

It was the fourth time I’d felt someone watching me.
The metal doorbell was still ringing from my chaotic entrance as I half-fell into the booth at the back of the restaurant. My two coworkers and my best friend, Riley, had been waiting in our usual spot, and were already sharing their corporate tales of woe.

My hammering pulse and ragged breaths nearly drowned out their greetings. I tried for a nonchalant, “Hey all,” and an approximation of a smile, hoping the combination masked the fact I’d just trekked across five city blocks in terror. It came out more like a two-syllable grunt than anything else. I’m sure the smile wasn’t much better.

It was hard to be cool, calm, and collected while hyperventilating.

By some miracle, despite the cortisol flooding my every cell, I convinced my shaking hands to fold my white cane. My fingers couldn’t quite navigate the zipper of my sling bag to store it though, and I gave up and left the cane in my lap. Maybe it’s a better weapon if it’s in easy reach anyway

The thought tightened my chest even more, and my already rapid breaths shallowed, putting me on the verge of passing out.

Fuck. Am I having a panic attack? Is it considered a panic attack if you have a solid reason to be panicking? Breathe. Just breathe.

The third time this sensation plagued me–because three makes a pattern–I’d finally searched if it was possible for people with vision loss like mine to sense when someone was staring at them.

I didn’t love the answer: either there actually was someone watching me, or I had a brain tumor. Either way, not great news.

Even sitting, surrounded by friends, I couldn’t shake the crawling tingle on my skin, the hairs on the back of my neck standing to attention.

Seriously, I need to breathe.

I forced my first deep breath since I sat down and vaguely recalled a panic attack exercise I heard about on social media. It took me a couple of seconds to remember how it started: 5-4-3-2-1. Five things you can see, four things you can feel, three things you can hear, two things you smell, one thing you taste.

I’m in a restaurant, how hard could this be?

Given my complete and total cortical blindness, “five things I could see” was not an awesome start.

This is my first time doing a book cover but I’ve worked in web design for a while and am trying to use what I know from digital and apply it to print, with mixed results. I would love any constructive feedback on how to improve this front cover (back to come once aesthetic is established)

I know I need to update the vector art to match the lighting and realism/fidelity of the background. Any other areas that need work?
