I let her go!

I matched with a woman on a dating app who was a few years older than me. I knew the age gap from day one, but I didn’t care. If anything, I liked it. She was calm, emotionally mature, and had this way of checking in on me that made me feel seen. After years of handling everything on my own, it felt nice to have someone who genuinely cared.
We talked every day for about a week. Then we met.
She was exactly the person she’d been over text—kind, thoughtful, and genuine. But somewhere during that evening, I realized the problem wasn’t her.
It was me.
At that point in my life, I was already drowning in career uncertainty and family problems. Bringing someone older into that chaos would have meant even more difficult conversations, more pressure, and more complications that I simply wasn’t ready to handle.
For the first time, I understood that liking someone isn’t always enough. Sometimes the right person arrives at the wrong time.
Walking away hurt, but staying would have been unfair to both of us.
I still think about her sometimes—not as the one who got away, but as the person who taught me that timing matters just as much as chemistry.
