Hi everyone,

I’m considering applying to BCIT’s Front-End Web Developer (FWD) program. It’s a relatively short program (around 6 months), and I’m wondering if anyone here has taken it or knows someone who has.

I have basically zero programming / coding background, so I’m a little concerned about whether the program is realistic for a complete beginner.

I’d really appreciate some honest opinions on:

• Is FWD actually suitable for someone with no coding background?
• How difficult/intensive is the 6-month program?
• How much time do you realistically need to spend studying outside of class?
• What is the job market like after graduation, especially in Vancouver / BC?
• Is it realistic to get a junior front-end/web developer job after completing the program?
• How long did it take you to find your first job after graduating?
• What kind of starting salary can a new graduate realistically expect?
• Would you recommend FWD in 2026/2027, especially with AI changing the web development industry?

I’m mainly interested in hearing from current students or recent graduates, especially people who started with little or no coding experience.

I'm looking for some great hiking spots around Vancouver and wondering if there are any hiking groups that are open to new members.

A little about me: I love hiking and the outdoors. I've backpacked solo across several European countries and also completed the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek in Nepal on my own.

Now I'm excited to explore more of BC's trails and hopefully meet people who enjoy hiking too.

Any trail or group recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
