how do i stop the midnight barber?

the white mouse (Classic) won’t stop barbering the grey one (Pebble) I’m not sure what is causing her stress? I have 3 mice in a 40 gallon breeder with 8 inches of bedding, a dig box, a 10 inch wheel, two sources of water, climbing opportunities, ample food, foraging opportunities, bridges, ropes, the works. I’ve always had issues with Classic being slightly under stimulated when compared to the other two so I try to take her out more and put in new forms of enrichment but she keeps balding pebble 😭😭 I have an empty 75 gallon, should I switch to a bigger enclosure? Would introducing more mice help even out the dynamic?

Paper vs wood shavings, bedding for sensitive mouse?

I have a rather sensitive lady who’s a bit over a year old who’s been doing some occasional sneezing for the past couple weeks. I don’t believe it’s an infection as she’s still active and eating and she has no other symptoms other than some soft sneezes. However I worry about her sneezing leaving her susceptible to infections. I currently use meticulously sifted aspen, but i’ve hear some people say they recommend paper because of the dust from aspen. I find paper bedding to be even dustier at times, and I worry about ammonia.

What beddings would you recommend for a sneezy mouse?

Not looking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone else has had a sensitive mouse and had a bedding that worked well for them in the past.

sure man why not, i didn’t even want dirt in the dig box anyways

i go to bed with a nice box full of dirt and i wake up to every nesting material in the tank all concentrated to their dig box with coco coir nowhere to be found. this is why we can’t ever have nice things guys 🫩

anyone else’s mice insist upon making a home in the one spot that is specifically set aside to not be a home?

what if, hypothetically, the dig box stayed contained.. inside the dig box 🫩

the messy culprits themselves in the second photo

they won’t stop making a nest in the dig box 🫩

i’m tired guys. every time i refill the dig box they go “oh wow let’s make our home right in this damp box of dirt instead of anywhere else in the 50 gallon tank!”

Temporary bedding ideas for sensitive/sneezy mouse?

One of my girls has always had a bit more of a sensitive respiratory system than the others and generally tends to sneeze after a bedding change (likely due to all the dust it kicks up when getting disturbed). Usually it goes away after I put her in a steamy bathroom for a little bit, but this time she’s continued sneezing occasionally. I have a vet appointment and I’m monitoring her, but I’m wondering there’s anything I can do in the meantime to help out her sensitive snoot?

I took out all of the aspen bedding, sifted it, and vacuumed up the dust through the sifting bag, but I can’t help but wonder if there’s more I can do. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to reduce irritants until her appointment? Thanks!

either a mouse who is very pleased with herself or is having a seizure

I know there’s a lot of “should i be worried” posts about popcorning on this sub but after beating up her sister she started doing what looked like popcorning except there’s a lot more head trashing than i typically see. does anyone else’s mouse popcorn like this? does this look like a seizure or neurological issue? or just a mouse who’s celebrating her victory in combat?

not seeking medical advice, just wondering if this seems like typical popcorning

Caught Red Handed

The girls decided that the best place for their new nest was in their dig box, look at that guilty face. I mean come on guys you have 40 gallons of space to make a nest and you choose the one spot that isn’t meant to be one.

I’m considering moving it because i’m not sure how I feel about them sleeping on damp coco fibers but it does feel a bit mean, they were working on it all day yesterday.
