Got some x-ray film

Paid 130 eur for these in total so when cut to 4x5 i get 800 sheets @ about 16 cents per shot (not counting chemicals but who does anyway). I think this is gonna be plenty enough for honing in my large format technique. Any tips for xray film in particular?

Not a trift find or estate score but bought myself my dream SLR

Got my start with film on OM-40 so always had a soft spot for Olympus. Ended up selling it to my friend and found a great deal on Pentax MX with a bunch of primes which I was happy with for a long time. That Olympus itch remained though and finally I said screw it, I want one. I also have 28mm 2.8 and 135mm 3.5 on their way from another seller.

Why is this my dream slr?

It's compact and lightweight, big bright viewfinder, excellent build quality and has a reputation of being reliable. It has everything I need from a manual focus slr and nothing I don't. Om1 lacks aperture priority, om4 has extra stuff I dont care about, double digit om:s are too plasticky. Most importantly it looks cool and feels great to handle so it makes me wanna go out and shoot more.

How does it compare to Pentax MX?

Both have similar reputation of being lightweight and compact with large viewfinders. I think MX viewfinder is ever so slightly brighter but the difference is minimal. Obviously if you absolutely need aperture priority you won't get the MX but most of this will apply to om-1 too.

Olympus wins in build quality IMO. While both are excellent, the OM looks and feels more premium. The MX is also probably bit too small, I have average sized hands and the OM being slightly bigger feels just right.

Looks are subjective but I think OM looks better and sleeker. OM lenses also look and feel way nicer than pentax. Also subjective but I think the OM shutter sound slaps better.

Speaking of lenses, pk mount has more of them, many of them great quality and probably bit better value than om zuiko. Having shot plenty with the 28 2.8 and 50 1.8 (or 1.7) on both systems, if anyone says they can say say which is which in a blind test (at least on film), they're bullshitting you. So image quality wise I'm gonna leave you with a hot take that it doesn't matter.

Lab scan vs mirrorless scan test

I just wanted to share this quick test I did as I'm trying to improve my scanning process. This pic is from one of the first rolls I ever shot with my friend way back in 2014. It's Agfa Vista 200 (apparently rebranded fuji c200?), lab developed and scanned using a Noritsu (according to metadata). Back then I was blown away by the results and I got hooked on film photography for life.

However now 12 years later looking back I'm not really huge fan of the lab scanned colors which are basically way too warm IMO. So i dug up the negatives and rescanned some of them using my previously posted Canon R6 + macro setup and edited using Negpy. Now my editing skills suck and basically I didn't do much except turn the color temp to slightly more neutral, but I do prefer this one to the lab version, what do you think?

By the way I had accidentally left my camera to a 1.6x crop mode while doing this so if I wanted I could get even more resolution.

Bit of a gamble but could not pass this for 100€

20 years expired but it's from a guy who i know to be serious photographer and he assured it's been freezer stored from new. I've previously had excellent results from same age slide film that was properly stored so crossing my fingers. I know in my last film stash post i mentioned I was gonna start selling some of my expired stuff and buying fresh but I couldn't help myself hehehe

Restarting the hobby pt. 2: my scanning rig (+ samples)

EOS R6 with pentax-m 100mm f4 macro lens and pentax macro bellows (for height adjustment), cheapo quick release plate, all bolted on to a two by four, kaiser slimlite plano as a light source, some random negative holder from a cheapo scanner. Built this years ago and it's been pretty much sitting unused. Well except for the Canon which i use for regular photos and video too.

Restarting the hobby after some years, organizing my film stash

Most of these were accumulated between 2019-2020 and i've mostly shot b&w and few slides since then. Thinking of selling at least those provia 400x (which i got for a bargain and are outrageously expensive nowadays) and buying fresh stock instead. Some of those other ancient slides probably need to go too. Nps/nsp and agfachrome i still need to shoot a test roll each and see if they're any good. I'm not even really up to date what's available new nowadays.
