I just pre ordered a Hemlock&Oak Horizontal

Who knows if it was a good idea. I've been waffling between this or if I should wait for Sterling Ink. It seems, though, as if I have to work less in customizing it myself with the H&O than I would have to with the Sterling Ink. I want to make it my own but I don't want to work too hard at it. I also like the look of the H&O. I got it in Wild Rose. I downloaded the pdf version first so I know what it looks like inside at least. Did anybody else pre order from them?

New pen, new ink

I already have two Pilot Kakuno pens, but got a clear one for this shimmery red ink from Diamine called Firefly. It is gorgeous! I just bought a second clear Kakuno for a shimmery blue ink, both of which is getting delivered today.

Saturday cover deco

Left Sterling Ink b6, right Midori A6. Both have cut outs from scrapbook paper I have with clear plastic covers. I am currently working on a similar cover to the Midori here on another notebook but with modge podge to seal it in instead of a clear cover over it.

Anybody else enjoy putting stuff on their plain colored notebooks? Show me! I'd love to see some of your notebook cover creations.

Something similar to Inspired Stories horizontal weekly lifestyle planner?

Just what the header says. I started the year with the Inspired Stories horizontal weekly lifestyle planner. Then at the end of January switched to a hobonichi. Then to a kinbor. Then to a different kinbor. Then did bullet journaling. Finally got back to the Inspired Stories planner and I find I do like it the best. But for next year I want something similar but different. I hate getting the same exact thing every year. The closest I've seen that interests me is the Hemlock and Oak horizontal weekly.

I do prefer a lifestyle type planner to a do it yourself or a minimalist planner. Any thoughts?

Which notebook would you use if...

If you were to start a degree today, what would be your notebook of choice to take notes in and why? What size? I can't decide between a cheap Amazon hardcover b5 or the Sterling Ink b5. Why waste a Sterling Ink on study notes, right? But then again... Why not? It needs to be used! Thoughts?

Physical or electronic notes for studying?

I am pursuing further education in vet med but it's been a while. In your opinion, is it better in this day and age to take electronic notes or is memory retention better when writing notes down in a notebook? How did you study? What worked for you? When reviewing your notes, did you prefer reading it from a screen or from a page? Thank you for any advice and input!

It finally arrived!

I bought this on Etsy and it came all the way from Ukraine. It is really beautiful. I put a Hemlock and Oak notebook in it and it will serve as a journal once my current journal is full. I may buy more from this seller.

I know for 2027 Hemlock&Oak has 120 gsm paper and Sterling Ink (as of 2026) has sanzen 52 gsm tomoe paper. I see the benefit of both. I like that the Sterling Ink comes in a "weeks" size (N1) and layout but with the extras like the space for goals and trackers which a hobonichi does not have. And minus the quotes at the bottom. But with the H&O I can really go crazy with all kinds of pens and I don't think it would bleed or ghost. I enjoy tomoe river paper though... And the H&O has lots of opportunity for self reflection and such. Which I can obviously add myself to the Sterling Ink, if I want to make the effort.

I am already torn and it's May! I think it's because it IS May and I still don't like my current planning setup. I want something that I will stick with and actually enjoy using next year. I already own an undated H&O horizontal but I am so tempted to go for a Sterling Ink... What are your thoughts on these two similar but very different planners?
