Do you remember when The Hives had diary posts on their website? They’re awfully funny.
I was just thinking wouldn’t it be amazing if they brought that back? Diary of a Hives album maybe… mmmmm that would be a lot of mental energy though, making an album and writing about making an album. 😆

Anyway here’s my favorite og Hives diary entry, it was too long for a screenshot.

2000 - 11 - 20

Three nights ago we played the last show of the Scandinavian part of the The Hives and The Hellacopters tour. Now we will conquer Europe once again. Two days ago we played in Malung with the mighty Savages. It was great! Now we have four whole days off for personal recreation before we head downwards in Sweden. I´m really looking forward to this European part of the tour. We especially enjoy coming back to Hamburg and Berlin. These four days of vacation have given me some time to think. I thought I´d shed some light upon one of the things I´ve been thinking about. In Sweden we have since like April when our latest record came out noticed a steady increase in the use of our names. Parents are naming their children after their own idols it seems. On the list of most popular names for boys we only two years ago found Nicholaus at a ghastling 234th spot while in June this year we found me on a more reassuring 5th spot. Infact this is what the top ten list for most popular names for boys looked like in August last year:

As you can see no real surprises except maybe for Jyrkki which is more common in Finland. Also notice that none of our names are featured on the list. Around december 1999 The Hives moved into the studio to record VVV. It was released in April following year. Summer passed and this is how the very same list looked in August this year:

I´ll try to get back to the matter anytime sooner or later if I can get my hands on a computer somewhere in Europe and say goodbye for now with a familiar line:

I don’t have much to say except that red always makes me feel happy.
I love bright cherry, maroon, tomato, and everything in between.
I especially love red with literal details like hearts, kisses, and flowers.
It adds everything I crave in an outfit: drama, nostalgia, fun, femininity, and spiciness.

I read the Spin article online a longtime ago but it’s fun to have it irl. The “is this Hives” bit made me laugh.

My husband says he’s running out of Hives stuff to buy me. Says he gonna try and get me the Bogus operandi shovel for Xmas. 🤣🤣

I don’t usually plan wardrobes or turn over my closet for the season. But thinking about the moodboards I’ve been making I decided to have a closet dig. I took out everything that I thought might help give me the vibe I want. Black, ivory, pale pink, a little cinnamon, a couple other pale colors to add variety. I pulled out lace, mesh, cashmere. All the slips I could find, skirts…..

At first I was planning on creating Fall looks. But I think that will trip me up because I don’t work with context. So instead I started to think of the look as a new persona or theme, dusty attic ragdoll perhaps…(You all have given me some amazing comments lately that led me down this path.) I feel there is a touch of ballerina in a box in these looks too. The leftover, slightly broken, toys in the attic and a dusty old chest full of dress-up clothes. Hmmmm anyway…

Over the last two weeks I’ve been mostly playing around with a couple slips I bought. I have pretty good luck buying the same item in multiple colors if it’s really me and this slip in ivory and black feels like a real win.
I also got a cheap little lace skirt from nordies kids’ dept because I haven’t been able to find any affordable short lacy adult skirts 😔 The lace skirt layered under the slip is great for warmth since it’s thicker and lined.

I’ve been having so much fun with them, trying to create a vibe, that I’ve barely put a dent in the pile of Fall possibilities I created.

Mid-week I had the idea to take some night-mode haunted self-portraits to maybe use as painting inspiration. I haven’t painted in a longtime and I had an epiphany during this week that I got frustrated with painting for the same reason I get frustrated with my style. When it doesn’t reflect me or say anything about me. I also have the same tendencies to go too light, bright and colorful when what I really want is a dark edge… a lot to think about.

I decided to edit all the photos with the vibe in mind first instead of going light and bright just because it’s more flattering.

A couple posts lately and an experience the other night, got me wondering, how much and what type of discomfort are you okay with enduring and how do you think it relates to your quad or archetype?

My tolerance for fabric that feels bad texture-wise on my body is very low. Also hate fabric that doesn’t breathe. My being sweaty tolerance is zero lol.
Tolerance for fit is probably medium. I’m willing for jeans to be tight or a little stiff if the look is what I want for example.

Fussiness: med-low. I don’t like to mess about with the outfit once it’s on. I accept or have strategies though for some things that to others may feel fussy. I always wear cute ruffle shorts under dresses so I’m not worried about short dress issues. And I match bras to tops so I don’t have to worry about them peeking out.

Physical pain (like blisters): high tolerance if the look and expression are perfect. (But I often wear socks because it adds to the look and prevents blisters. ) On the other hand if a shoe is painful from the get go, I won’t wear it.

Then there is mental discomfort…
We’ve talked about flattering vs unflattering which I think would fall here. For me I think medium. I want to look how I want to look so it needs to be flattering to me but I love a babydoll dress that others might say looks like a sack lol.

The mental discomfort of sticking out.. I’ve grown a much higher tolerance for this since finding Rita and using the Siren archetype.

But! The other night I realized my tolerance for head whips, staring, and hard looks is not so high lol.

We went to dinner and the movies in a smaller town than usual. I wore this red babydoll (sack lol) dress, socks, and tights. I expected glances because of the bright red but I was surprised and confused by people staring at my legs. I assume it was my knee socks? I’m not exactly sure if that was the issue but it was strange. I wanted to just ask: what are you looking at??? 😂 not in a mad way but perplexed.

(I posted in the big Outfits sub today because I was wondering, does everybody hate long socks, what’s the deal lmaooo. Everybody has been really nice over there though, no knee sock hate lol.)

I don’t want to change my style. So I guess I will just keep pressing forward on my hard look tolerances.

How about you? What type of things make clothes feel comfortable/uncomfortable and do you have a tolerance scale or is it more yes/no?

I’ve been working on some moodboards because I am really craving something new for Fall/winter. In my mind it is a Southern Gothic theme with other stuff mixed in.

These boards are very desaturated but irl I would like some soft pinks, peaches, cornflower blue, burgundy and maybe plum. I’m being very pulled towards lots of soft cotton creamy beige layers.

The problem is I can’t find anything that looks like this or that is giving me the feeling I want. Idk if this is enchantress territory but it is a little painful and frustrating.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the boards. They get cut-off in the preview so you might need to click to see everything. Do they look detached from my usual style? They feel very different from what I’ve been wearing lately but the details I think are not unusual for me.

I picture Caddy from The Sound and the Fury and Shakespeare’s Juliet and Ophelia as characters in this world. We are all women frustrated by the limitations of reality I guess lol.

Is there usually a stream for Rock in rio? I hope we get some good footage of The hives tonight

I really don’t get it. I was looking up mariachi era Hives on YouTube and there are some amazing performances with hardly any views. Paris 2013 chefs kiss
And hundreds more in every era.

Who else has this band’s positive energy??? The vibes are impeccable.

Including this video from Vilar de Mouros because I love Pelle screaming The Hives!!!! in the background. I love that he is the biggest fan of his own band lol.

Seems contradictory maybe but one of my power colors is pink. The other is red, especially the combo of red and black. Sort of its opposite is pink and white but it feels powerful too because I don’t see many people over 8 years old wearing pink lol. Or if I do, it’s athletic wear. So to own wearing a pink outfit feels pretty bold. Being bold and taking ownership of my style, being willing to stick out feels powerful to me.

These striped socks are my power socks lol. For the same reason I guess. They telegraph my style. I can’t decide if I like the dress best with them or the grey. For some reason the stripey socks remind me of Pippi Longstocking and I like to wear them uneven and scrunched, a little disheveled. Important to have big disheveled hair with this dress too 🤣

My phone wasn’t picking up the pink very well so I asked my husband to take a pic outside for me.

As a spin off of our instinctive convo I was thinking someone trying to decide if they are in a left quad might think if you work with instinct you automatically know what looks and feels good and what is going to make a perfect outfit but in my case that’s not true at all.

I let instinct guide me but it doesn’t mean the instinctive choices are any good lol. In fact probably 9 out of 10 are not “good” outfits. I thought I’d show how many outfits it takes to make one I like. And how some choices along the way are totally off lol.

Sometimes I know before I put something on it’s not going to be right but I try it anyway because other ideas can happen. Often I’m experimenting with shape even though I know the color won’t work. I’m including several photos to show how many mehs there are lol.

1: I don’t like these boots. The color is probably better than black but they feel too horse-girl for me and I don’t like the feel of my feet in them.
2: so tried these black boots that are very comfy.
3: there’s a bustle thing happening with the poofy layers I like.
4: I knew the belt color was wrong but I’ve been wanting to try and find this belt in black.
5: eh belts are so tricky
6: more bustle. It’s unflattering yet I like it.

I made this collage for the moodboard game in Kibbe’s book tonight. But it got me thinking about my roots and how I want to feel for Fall….

I’ve been really loving sheer light layers for summer but not sure how to continue this as the weather cools. Also the idea of soft, worn cotton dresses. Ruffles and ribbons… maybe these light layers paired with chunky socks and leg warmers 🤔

I’m not sure how to incorporate or where to find clothing like this for Fall. But more and more I’m drawn to it as an expression of 🌸🌙 I think.

I really want a pinafore that I can layer over full cotton skirts. But I can never find these things. The curse of being stuck in the past I guess lol.

Well I’m back from vacation and my festival season is over 🥲 but I had so much fun.

Thanks to Rita’s system and encouragement from all of you on this sub I have been able to embrace myself and my style more and more without fear.

I went to Sweden, Belgium, Portugal, and briefly London and was so struck by how definitely not IN fashion my style is. I don’t mind it though, it’s very freeing living outside of current trends.

3: my grandpa cardi, couldn’t live without it. I’m so glad I packed leg warmers and long socks because I was constantly surprised by the cold.

I’m not sure if I’m doing this correctly but I loved everyone’s style concept posts so wanted to try. I have a hard time focusing on a single mood or idea with my style expression. I tend to want to throw in everything all at once, especially with moodboards lol.

So I made this collage quite quickly just to try and capture the feeling I’m craving right now of delicate sheer fabrics that let the sunshine softly through.

I’ve been on vacation this week in Sweden and it’s been really fun. I was a little nervous about how to dress and it’s even more conservative and homogeneous here than I expected. To say I stick out like sore thumb is a massive understatement 😂😂

I met my band The Hives on Friday and was completely open-hearted and silly. Niklas, the guitarist, was very kind about my gushing over him lmao.

The Hives were fantastic as always but the festival crowd felt to me like Swedish Coachella. Primarily pop music fans who don’t actually care about bands. I didn’t think it was a good match for The Hives.

I was surprised and found it strange. I figured it’s their home, everyone will be so into it. But idk I think they were under-appreciated

Maybe I was in a weird spot for their show, on the rail but far to the right. I got pissed off when I could hear myself singing the Bogus operandi chorus, like hello where are you people??

Maybe I’m just a grumpy old alt girl though lol.
