Why do we forget serious incidents so quickly? (Saw a familiar face again online)

I randomly came across an Instagram reel of Salma Marwat Khan and it brought back something I remember reading in the news a while ago.

From what I recall, there was a reported incident near F-11 Markaz in Islamabad involving a motorcycle accident that resulted in a fatality and another injury, and the driver left the scene afterward.

Now seeing the same person back online, posting reels and getting praise and “aura” comments like nothing ever happened really confused me.

What surprises me more is how quickly social media seems to reset everything. People move on, forget serious incidents, and start hyping the same individuals again as if the past is completely erased.

Is this just how internet culture works now? Short attention span + selective memory?

Genuinely asking, why do we as a society tend to forget (or ignore) these kinds of serious events so easily, especially when someone becomes popular again online?

Asking for a friend.

They bought an 2008 model Islamabad-registered Suzuki Swift (Japan import) last year. The car was still in the previous owner’s name, but the seller completed biometric verification and the transfer was done to my friend’s father. The ETO Islamabad office issued a new smart card and returned the complete file.

Yesterday, they received an SMS about a traffic violation from a city in Punjab. At first they thought it was a scam, but after checking on the official website, it turned out to be legitimate.

The issue: someone else is using their registration number on another car (same model, same color). It’s definitely not their vehicle.

They are residents of Islamabad and have never even visited that city in Punjab.

Now they’re concerned this could lead to bigger problems, especially if that other car gets involved in an accident or criminal case.

What’s the safest way to handle this?

  • Should they report it to Islamabad police immediately?
  • Any experience dealing with cloned number plates in Pakistan?
  • What steps should they take with Excise/ETO to protect themselves?

Would really appreciate any guidance. Thanks 🙏

The Islamabad ETO has issued three different number plate formats over time, depending on the vehicle model. All three were legal and officially issued by the Excise Department at the time.

What is the current situation? Are the older designs still valid, or is it now mandatory to switch to the new design under ETO regulations?
