Anyone want to hear about Mystara*- Red Steel? If this gets 10 likes or 3 replies I'll post more info in the comments. 

It was a box set I got years by surprise. It's set as “new world" in a settled ancient land. The land has a massive red desert. The red sands stains everything and imbues it with a magical radiation that mutates people. It gives you a magical power, but also a curse that mutates you. You can get the ability to blow poison clouds, but if you mutate you become large and puffy (unable to wear standard armor) and it drains your dex stat. You can wear a protective amulet, but too long in the wild and the protection fades. The metal, cynabril, degrades into Red Steel, a very deadly metal that kills any supernatural creatures (ignore any supernatural dmg red).

The source of the desert is mysterious. One says the scorpion men betrayed the forest spirit, as guests, which led to the creation of the desert. In return the sun spirit cursed them and their bodies burned, and the red sand is their remnants that poison those that come after. Scorpion men have many vampiric traits. 

Another says a great dragon fought a great evil. The great evil was destroyed and became the red curse, but the great dragon died and his bones became the cynabril.

This world is very versatile with lots of great features. I have personally written out a couple of files in word that could use some editing. I stopped in 3.x.
