Skaldova S2E2 heraldry (mild spoiler)

Skaldova S2E2 heraldry (mild spoiler)

This is how the Bog 2 emblem ended up in my head at the end of their lengthy discussion. Are there too many colours? Yes. Is it too cluttered to be a good heraldic device? Also yes. I'm sure I could do something better with the chevrons but I'm not a particularly good artist

Schotteriser: make old-school algorithmic art in your browser. No signup, no install

Over summer I got into early algorithmic/generative art: Georg Nees, Vera Molnar et al. (Shout out to the guy at EMF2026 with the plotter art postcards for triggering this rabbit hole!) For the last few weeks I've been building something that would let you create that kind of generative art without writing any code. Find the HTML and README on my github: https://github.com/PKM-UK/schotteriser/tree/main

The elevator pitch: create geometry, apply transforms to it, assign colours based on position, download one SVG per colour for plotting. It's a single HTML file full of plain JavaScript so there's nothing to install and no signup/login; open it in your browser and play with it.

It's still in an early alpha stage, the UI is a bit rough and it's missing some nice to have features but it's in a state where people might like to have a play with it.

Evolution

A nod to two classic pieces of algorithmic art (comment if you think you know!) Designed with my no-code old school generative art playground - more on that at r/PlotterCode soon

Who listens?

Who listens still I do not know

To a recycled Travis show

There are not many real fans here

The listener numbers dwindle low

The middlest bro (who thinks he's queer)

DMs the shows that make us jeer

During the inter-season break

The darkest eight weeks of the year

It seems to be a big mistake

The long hiatuses they take

They'll never put in as much work

As Emily, and Murph, and Jake

So they reuse a bonus perk

For every fortnight that they shirk

There's nothing new for me to jerk

There's nothing new for me to jerk

Tool haul knoll

A bucket of tools I got from clearing a relative's garage before they moved house. There is nothing like knolled hand tools... I tried to mix it up a bit so it's not just "things in rows"

smdh

You expect them to play D&D for two hours once a month, talk about fast food press releases for an hour a week _and_ half heartedly play a couple of hours of video games?

There's a new, new conspiracy theory

Justin's new hilarious character (to add to the stable with Richard Stink and Count Donut) was going to be a stereotypical stoner bro called Doober Sweetleaf who would review new strains of ganja instead of QSR press releases or fragrances.

Griffin knew he couldn't just say "no that's a terrible idea" because talking openly and directly about interpersonal issues isn't part of their brand, so instead he just stole the name for a dumb disposable NPC in Royale (whom Lorevith immediately glommed on to despite him being a Whole Ass Adult Man).

Also he was going to call his character Ganjaman in retribution but was eventually talked around to Gonjavon after they convinced him losing the few advertisers TAZ have left would eat into his weed budget

Rrecapp: TTAZZ Royale

Intro: Travis says "you know what they call it in France?' and they dunk on him for being a hack but they could have dunked much harder.

They spend about the first 10 minutes talking about how cool it was that events that happened during the course of the game influenced the story because it's not what they originally planned for their characters. Have they discovered... not pre-scripting their RPG campaigns?

Clint mentions that the setup meant that the PCs would eventually be pitted against each other, and "two of them wouldn't survive". Travis quickly reads another listener question to move on from this.

Clint says the character of Hellgrammite was based on Blackadder.. he is too good for this show.

Justin says by the end of the campaign they had too many spells... That's a pretty wild claim for an extremely magic-limited campaign based around playing D&D wizards which famously have a butt load of spells and a mechanic for narrowing down the number of spells they have to choose from. Read the DMG challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

Justin says playing the Goliaths as outsiders of the culture felt too close to the Firbolg and he didn't want to do it again... He's so close

Griffin acknowledges he didn't have an ending written. No duh. "I'm happy things ended the way they did" well that makes one of us.

Money Zone! Today's recap is sponsored by Olio, an app I used to find some free paving slabs so I can pave over an area of gravel in my garden which my cat has started doing poos in.

Advert: "you're listening to TAZ Royale. Maybe it's even the finale? We have no way of knowing, because ChatGPT doesn't know how to time box adverts on our podcast hosting. Anyway, send questions for the finale to noonedoesitlikethe@mcelroys.com"

Favis: "when the Gentleman died Rictus was so pissed to have that revenge taken from him" sure, that was definitely Rictus feeling that.

Spoilers: >!It was an earth-based Balance tie in!< all along and none of the players were invested enough in the history of the world to discover that?! I can feel the heartbreak and betrayal in the core of the fans who desperately wanted >!it to be a tie in with an existing TAZ universe!< and have had to learn the hard way that the cast of TAZ literally do not care enough to ask.

Justin was a big tough boy because he wanted to win, very sensible play given the absurd rules but also not who I expected to be min maxing. Anyway it didn't matter because Griffin is a cuck who won't ever kill a PC but he got to play a nature based outsider who doesn't read books or sleep in beds so I'm sure he's happy with it.

Next up: Short campaign next in the vein of live shows (which had mostly been Favis DMing one shots based on public domain 19th century literature, hence my Victoriana guess) while they work out what will be next.

tl;dr give Clint a gun

Which system should the boys play next season? Wrong answers only

I notice sometimes the PC's motivations and even their personalities can get jumbled without anything written down to guide them, and I thought it would be a good idea if they played one of the systems where these traits are mechanical aspects of the character.

Therefore the next season they should clearly be playing Pendragon, a game about Arthurian chivalry where the character have no fewer than thirteen opposed pairs of traits which can be used to guide behaviour (Letting The Dice Tell The Story) - these are

  • Chaste / Lustful
  • Energetic / Lazy
  • Forgiving / Vengeful
  • Generous / Selfish
  • Honest / Deceitful
  • Just / Arbitrary
  • Merciful / Cruel
  • Modest / Proud
  • Pious / Worldly
  • Prudent / Reckless
  • Temperate / Indulgent
  • Trusting / Suspicious
  • Valorous / Cowardly

... and there definitely wouldn't be any crashing anachronisms or terrible British accents in a game set in 5th century Salisbury

Hot link feta cheesecake, two ways

Following u/dickdicksucksuck 's post last week (https://www.reddit.com/r/somnigastronomy/comments/1vda6h5/hot\_link\_feta\_cheesecake\_with\_lemon\_glaze/), I thought "I like spicy sausage and lemon cheesecake so I'll give this a go". Caveat: I wasn't going to commit to cooking a whole sausage for this ridiculous farce, so I used a hot prepackaged salami instead. I beg your forgiveness. I also made this in a bit of a rush so my wife wouldn't think I'd completely lost the plot, so please also forgive my hurried plating and photography.

Starting with the sensible option, the cheesecake was described as having the taste of feta, so I sliced salami and feta on a digestive biscuit (the UK equivalent of Graham crackers) and topped it with a little lemon zest as a nod to its lemon cheesecake origins. This is, unsurprisingly, quite nice. My instinct was actually to put it on a rosemary sea salt cracker, and I did try, but it's too much salty savoury, it's not balanced. The mild sweetness of the digestive biscuit actually offsets the spicy salami a little bit. It was quite nice, but I don't think I'd bother to make it again.

7.5/10

Now our bouches are amused, it's time for the main event: hot salami in a cheap supermarket lemon cheesecake, complete with luminous yellow thick gloopy gel on top. Somnigastronomes, I was not prepared for what happened.

This motherfucker is delicious. I like all of the ingredients individually, but I was expecting "palatable but weird". It actually works exactly the way you would hope this kind of mad combination does: fresh, creamy, savoury; the cheesecake mellows the spicy sausage and the heat stops the cheesecake from cloying. It turns out salt, fat, acid, heat is a winning formula- who knew?

10/10 no notes.

Conspiracy theory: it's all about the pasta

Maybe Griffin is the only one who actually enjoys TTRPG podcasts and game streaming (Justin would rather be a house husband and Favis aspires to be a theatre kid hustling for VA roles in animated kids films) , and he has manoeuvred all three brothers' entire livelihoods into this field as payback for the time they tricked him into eating the decorative dry pasta at Olive Garden.

/uj I don't think it's actually true but it would be pretty funny

Justin's internet is out right now so no stream today

Justin's internet is out right now so no stream today,

Justin threw his back out so he's going to lay down all day.

Justin's got bad hair today so he simply can't be seen

Justin's not all there today, he's just staring at his screen

Justin's havin' trouble adjustin' today, can't get comfy on his chair

Justin isn't Justin today, we don't know who's in there.

Justin's feeling queasy today, the result of fast food greed

Justin's taking it easy today after smoking too much weed

There's no Justin any more.

Justin isn't here. He's gone.

... Justin?

Anyway this next segment is called "Travis spends 40 minutes describing a dream he had and not letting Griffin make any jokes about it"
