Are automatic litter boxes safe and worth buying?

I came across a few posts about cats getting trapped or seriously injured by some unknown-brand litter boxes, and they scared the hell out of me.

If you want to avoid one that could actually be dangerous, stay away from generic brands!!!

I did a lot of digging into the safety features and ended up going with Petkit. So far, I have 0 safety concerns with it. When it’s rotating, it immediately stops if it senses my cat getting close. The rotation is also not complete, so there’s always a safe opening, and there isn’t really anywhere she could get pinched or trapped.

I think incomplete rotation + no pinch points are key for safety. Be sure to look closely at these safety design details when checking out any litter boxes.

As for whether it’s worth the money, I definitely hesitated because of the price. Most of the better brands are not cheap… but now I can say I don’t regret buying it.

The self-cleaning alone saves me so much time, and I got the version with a camera - I love that feature. I usually record my cat in there. When she looks directly at the camera, it’s ridiculously cute. I always love watching this kind of cat pooping videos 😂

I also like being able to check her weight changes and toilet frequency through the app. It can even detect things like unusual yowling and vomiting. I’m a little anxious about my cat’s health, so having that extra info has been really helpful.

My only complaint is that the included power cord is way too short. I had to set up a separate power strip just for it. And it’s a bit big for my small room. Overall, I’m happy with it.

Is my ragdoll eating too much? She eats 120g dry food + 50g wet food every day

I used to leave dry food in a bowl and didn’t really measure how much my cat was eating.
Recently I started using a petkit feeder and set it to dispense 40g of dry food twice before I go to work. When I get home, I give her 50g of wet food. Sometimes I give her treats when play with her.
The things is… she still goes to the feeder at night and paws at it like she’s starving … then I’ll give in and let the feeder dispense another 40g of dry food.
So I realize she currently eats 50g of wet food and at least 120g dry food every day.
She doesn’t seem sick, and she doesn’t look overweight (she’s 5.7kg).
I’m trying to make sure I’m not overfeeding her… Thanks!

Does the Dockstream foundation track water intake accurately?

Hi guys 👋 I’ve been thinking about getting a pet water fountain and was checking out Petlibro Dockstream fountain. I saw that it can track how much water my cat drinks using a weight sensor, which sounds pretty cool. But I have 2 questions:

When cats play with the water using their paws, does that spilled water also get counted as intake?

And with warmer weather (especially when the AC is on), water evaporates faster, can the fountain exclude weight changes when a cat isn’t actually using the water?

Would love to hear what others think about this.
