Can STRTP home take cell phone from child upon arrival?

This is in California.

My foster daughter was sent to an STRTP (Short term residential therapeutic program) home 4 months ago. When she arrived, they took her cell phone and iPad and did not return it. They said they returned both to her mom.

She is only allowed limited phone calls using the house phone. There is no internet in the house and no way to communicate electronically. Calls with her former foster parent are required to be monitored by the house staff, and calls with her bio mom is limited to one call each week at a certain time.

It is my understanding that kids in California foster homes are allowed to have and use their cell phones and iPads, subject to reasonable restrictions such as not using it at nighttime, during program activities, etc.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Preparing for TDI Advanced Nitrox/Deco procedures class

I've been diving 10+ years, and currently logging around 20 dives a year. I have always been interested in learning more and taking it to the next level, and with that I just signed up for a TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures class. I meet all the prerequisites but have some questions for those who have done this class.

I've read through the AN manual, and there are a ton of different formulas on partial pressures, O2, etc.. Do I need to memorize these?

How difficult is the water work in this class? I will be taking in in a tropical location but I've never juggled 3 tanks (a twinset plus deco mix tank).

What was the most difficult part of the course was it for you?

Any feedback and suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Karmelo Anthony says he's broke and does not have enough money for a lawyer for appeal; Family earned $625,000.00 in crowdfunding

The 19-year-old convicted killer made the claim in court documents for his appeal filed after he was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison for murdering 17-year-old football player Austin Metcalf at a Frisco, Texas, high school track meet in 2025.

In his filing, Anthony describes himself as a “penniless, destitute, and indigent person, too poor to employ counsel to represent me on the appeal.”

GiveSendGo cancelled the family's fundraising efforts after Anthony was convicted, after more than $629,724 had been raised.

“The fundraiser had been established to provide comprehensive assistance to the Anthony family as they navigate the many challenges surrounding Karmelo’s case,” Hayes wrote.

“While legal defense is a critical part of this journey, we want to make it clear that this fund is not solely dedicated to legal expenses.”

It is unclear how the courts will respond to Anthony’s claim that he is too poor to afford a lawyer after the haul his family made online.
