'84 Saab 900i: Motor oil choice

Quick question, can I use this kind of Bardahl oil for my Saab? (Second image is the car's service manual, tell me if you need translation).

Currently I'm using Shell Helix 10w-30 full synthetic oil to flush the freshly rebuilt engine and for the break in, because it's cheep.

At the third oil change (1000 Km) I wanted to switch to Bardahl 10w-40, but honestly I don't understand any of that API SN SF stuff so idk if it'll be good for the engine on the long term.

Please help, thanks!

'85 SAAB 900i: Horn system doesn't work (and I have a safety inspection coming😭)

Usually the problem with the four spoke wheel is the buttons themselves failing due to age, but it's not the case here...

  • Fuse is good.
  • Horn sounds when bypassing the relay.
  • Relay clicks when given straight 12V, and resistance checks out (circuit opens and closes correctly).

I can only imagine the problem being somewhere between the steering wheel and the fuse box, but I can't find anything evidently wrong behind the wheel. Do you know any known faulty parts I can check?

I'm begging for help, I can't accept being set back from registering this car for something this stupid 😭...

Thanks

1984 Saab 900i 8v: what can I use as filter?

My 900 has this fuel pump set up where, at the bottom of the pump itself, theres a rubber cone (number 19 in the picture) under which there's a plastic box/housing (number 16 in the picture) which has (had) some sort of filtering paper inside that disintegrated over time.

Since all of these parts are made entirely of unobtanium, I'm trying to figure out what kind of material to put in that pre-fuel-pump filter housing. The first time I replaced the pump I stuffed it with a bunch of layers of cloth net, which didn't do a great job.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Old car stuff I guess...

I was trying to fix the horn since the rubber buttons are completely worn out, and out of nowhere the seat collapsed...

All hail zip ties

1984 SAAB 900i: childish dream build

I'm getting bored waiting for the number plates, so I made some concept arts of what I could turn this old timer into.

Idk if I'm gonna do all of it or not, but I'm curious what the response from a Saab purists community would be.

What do you think?

It leaks and it rattles, but it's on and it gives an idea of what it can sound like if it was properly installed.

I'll probably take it off and put it on a bit better next time.

(The smoke is the wd-40 I used to slide the pieces together ((I hope😭)))

I'm currently replacing the middle and end mufflers (which were completely rotten) with a new muffler and double pipes, going from 2 inch to 2,5 inch pipes.

Here's how it sounds without half the exhaust.

Soon I'll get the 2 to 2.5 inch adapter, I'll update you on the sound when I bolt it on.

Issue: Both the left (front and rear) direct speaker outputs and the left RCA output are significantly weaker than the right outputs. At max volume the right signal is correctly loud while the left is whisper quiet.

I ruled out a speaker Issue, and I also tried hooking the stereo to a 4 channel amp through the RCA output, same story.

This makes me believe the problem is deep inside the head unit. So, as I usually do, I take everything apart and then go cry on reddit for help...

Does anybody have any idea what I should be looking for? I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for this thing but it's like 30 years old and I doubt I'll succeed...

help.

This is the situation: I bought new set of speakers for the 900, but unpredictablly they are too deep to fit in the original spot in the dash.

I have no intention of cuttinf nor drilling the dash to fit the speakers, so, do you guys have any suggestions where I could fit them?

I was thinking I could make new door cards and put them there, but still, I'm not entirely sure that there's enough room with the glass and all.

Let me know of you have any spot that comes to mind, thanks!
