I’ve heard Jim’s new album. Some quick thoughts here:
Tough one to pull singles from, Come Again made the most sense as a single and is probably the best song on the album.
Some similarities to bits of Regions of Light and Sound (Dear God, Of The Mother) or Eternally Even (The World’s Smiling Now), but admittedly nowhere near the same level of those tracks.
There’s a consistent focused theme throughout, but I know some folks have soured on Jim’s societal commentaries.
Feels like a collection of B-sides. While they are stripped down, they’re much more fleshed out than the Roland/Akai noodling that was released with the Regions deluxe version a few years ago.
Honorable mention tracks for me were Home (Green) and Your Door, both have some cool classic Jim guitar noodling bits or outros.
The whole album comes in shy of 40mins and is a quick listen. Unfortunately it is a bit forgettable and felt like mostly background music to me (funny, because it was intended to be background film score music so I guess all that makes sense).
I’ve only listened once but these are my immediate takes.
