Mortal Shell II (UE5) crashes on in-game video playback under CrossOver/D3DMetal — D3D12 Video / AGX shader limit? Everything else works

Setup:

- MacBook Pro, Apple M5, 16 GB, macOS 27.0 (beta)

- CrossOver 26.3 patched with CXPatcher (26.3p0.7.1)

- GPTK 4.0b2 / D3DMetal, backend = d3dmetal, D3DM_ENABLE_METALFX=1, D3DM_MTL4=1

- Game installed to a normal bottle; DLSS→MetalFX works fine in Diablo IV, so my GPTK/DLSS setup is correct.

The problem:

Mortal Shell II runs PERFECTLY on D3DMetal — until any in-game .mp4 plays

(intro, tutorial "shell" clips, cutscenes). The video shows as a black box,

audio plays for a couple seconds then distorts, then the game hard-crashes.

Crash signature (from Saved/Crashes/.../CrashContext.runtime-xml):

- EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading 0x0

- Faulting thread: RHIThread, with ElectraPlayer::Video decoder / MP4 streamer

threads active

- RHI.RHIName = D3D12, RHI.AdapterName = "AMD Compatibility Mode"

So UE's Electra decodes the mp4, hands the frame to the D3DMetal RHI, and it

null-derefs on the render thread. Looks like D3DMetal's Direct3D 12 Video path

(the game ships its own DX12 Agility SDK / D3D12Core.dll). I also see

"AGX: exceeded compiled variants footprint limit" in the wine console.

DXVK avoids the crash (runs the game in DX11, no D3D12 Video path) but the DX11

renderer has heavy blocky artifacts, so it's not really usable.

What I've already tried (all no change):

- Deleting/renaming the Content/Movies .mp4s (they're inside .pak/.utoc, no effect)

- Disabling winegstreamer / forcing software decode

- Native Media Foundation via HoodedDeath/mf-fix (full MS MF DLLs + overrides + MFTs)

- Removing the bundled DX12 Agility SDK (Binaries/Win64/D3D12)

- DXMT backend → renders only the UI, black 3D world

- Confirmed a healthy GStreamer stack (had a broken manual patch, fixed it) — still crashes

- Verified it's not decode: audio decodes, H.264 plugins present; the crash is on the

D3DMetal render/present side.

- Has anyone gotten UE5 games that use D3D12 hardware video decode / Electra to play

in-game videos under D3DMetal without crashing?

- Is there a known way to force Electra off the D3D12 video path (a cvar / Engine.ini

[ConsoleVariables] entry) so it uses a plain CPU texture?

- Any workaround for the AGX "compiled variants footprint limit" with D3DMetal?

How do I [25M] approach an in-person talk with my girlfriend [23F] after a sudden shift from anxious attachment to avoidant/self-destructive behavior?

My girlfriend (23F) and I (25M) have been together for about 2 years, I was her first partner and her first sexual experience, and I’m looking for advice on how to not make the situation worse while trying to save this.

Before going into details I must note sth really important:

i had a traumatic event with my ex that started just like this and ended in a very sudden breakup, the difference is that ex relationship was 3 months old and she was a very toxic person from the start with mental disorders.

Now back to the main topic

For most of our relationship, when she was struggling emotionally, especially during her PMS and Period, she would spiral toward me. If she was anxious, overwhelmed, insecure, or having mood swings, she wanted reassurance, closeness, comfort, etc.

in the past two months, that changed.

Now when she gets into a bad state, she seems to spiral away from me: distancing, avoidance, drowning herself in work, coworkers, alcohol, and maybe weed. That shift is what is really scaring me.

This has happened two times now, the first time, I said okay and gave her a week of space, minimal contact. She was with her friends having girls night drinking and smoking weed till they pass out. A week after, she came back and realized she was f*cking herself up. During a playful convo, she said sth along the lines of "Why did you let me do that?" and "When I get into this state, you should force me and pull me back, you should say NO and check me during the day and tell me to stay home if i'm going too far!"

The 2nd time this has happened was during the past 1-2 weeks that I started to notice she was acting strange again. Until she brought up the whole "space" thing again. Next time we met in person I asked her if she was hiding anything from me, she no nothing except... and i said what? She answered I feel like don't have feelings towards our relationship anymore.

I was dumbfounded and was like okay if you don't have feelings for me anymore and don't want to fix anything then why waste time. Then she replied "No, It's not about you, I still love you and I don't want to lose you, but our relationship has not been the same as before and I have no idea where it is going and I don't want to keep thinking about that for a while..."

Some context:

• she has always had severe mood swings every few months
• in the past, her bad moods often became anxiety about me “not caring enough”
• I once promised her I wouldn’t leave her at her lowest for reassurance during one of her "you don't care about me" phases
• I think she often acts impulsively first and only later understands what she was doing

A few days ago I found out she had lied to me about some things (not confirmed cheating, more like lies around outings/excuses). I took her to my place to talk, and that’s when she told me, in person, she feels like she “needs space” and can’t handle the responsibility of the relationship on top of everything else in her life.

But this was not framed as a breakup or an open relationship.

We explicitly agreed:

- we are still together

- no more lies, she tells me beforehand when going out or staying over somewhere
- neither of us is single
- no flirting / sex / cheating with other people
- couples therapy is part of trying to repair this

- also weirdly enough, she said I don't want to "not spend time with you or talk to you at all" I just don't have that girlfriend energy right now. And when I asked her about sex, she was okay with having sex during this period of "taking space"!

The only reason I agreed to this was because I messed up really hard a year ago during our relationship, she found a dm to my ex on my phone and the date was when me and my current GF were 2 months into dating.

Since then, I’ve felt stuck because on paper the boundaries are clear, but in practice her behavior feels more distant, avoidant, and self-destructive. Even though there's still some emotion in our small conversations throughout the day, the ambiguity, the trust damage and my own attachment anxiety is starting to make me want to do impulsive stuff that I know would lead to making things even worse.

Another factor is that she recently took an emergency contraceptive pill, (we had sex the same night we agreed about the whole space thing and boundaries) which I know can also mess with mood/emotions, so I’m trying to be fair about the fact that she may be emotionally unstable right now for multiple reasons.

My main question is how to approach the in-person talk.

I feel like we need to have one before therapy, because I don’t want therapy to be the first place where all of this fully explodes.

What I want from the talk is clarity on:

• whether she actually wants to repair this (even though the same night we set boundaries, I repeatedly asked her this in different wordings and she said yes)
• whether she understands how much trust has been damaged
• whether this is a temporary destabilized phase or whether she is already halfway out of the relationship

For people who have dealt with something similar:

• Have you seen a partner shift from anxious/clingy spirals to avoidant/self-destructive ones?
• How do you approach that conversation without becoming controlling or making things worse?

I’m looking for practical advice on how to handle the conversation, not moral judgment about who is the bad guy. Situation is not as simple as just letting go or breakup with her. I feel like the situation hasn't reached that severe state yet, and I don't want it to reach that state.
