Cardboard loom update!

Original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/tabletweaving/comments/1u13fbg

First weave was successful! Yarn was definitely too loose to begin with, but about half way through the rubber bands started doing their job.

(I thought) The pattern was supposed to be 2 picks rotating forward, 2 back, but the sides kept not getting tied down, so I started just going forward until it built up too much twist, then backward, repeat.

The loom itself worked pretty great, though this fuzzy yarn needs more clearance between pegs and cardboard. Over all, I wish I just had easier access to the interior space.

Overall, a very enjoyable process, and I can't wait to do some real patterns with more tablets and colored threads!

Thanks everybody for all your kind words, this is a very wholesome community:)

Just noticed this detail on the cover art...

(Avatar) Eshmel "Herald of the Pale Raven" seems to share some coloring and design motifs with the (presumably) Nabatean girl from the trailer. Coincidence, or conspiracy?

Roast my "loom"!

As a broke graduate student, I spend way more time watching videos and learning about crafts than I do actually engaging in the craft.

So I was absolutely stoked when I ran across this post of somebody making a loom from a cardboard box and drumsticks. Inspired by the "whatever I have on hand" vibes of the OP, I created this cardboard masterpiece. Hot glue to hold the two halves of my Aldi cardboard box together, chopsticks for dowels, rubber bands provide tension as the weave contracts. Playing cards for the tablets and a net weaving shuttle complete the setup. The yarn is... not great for this purpose, but for an initial go just learning, it's working fine.

Who knows, maybe some day I'll upgrade to the (in)famous IKEA Inkle Loom.

Wish me luck!
