Hunger Over Fear
My city allows fireworks, and my neighbors are big fans. The family apparently was hungry enough to ignore the loud bangs and get a quick snack.

My mother, who is 87 lost her 18 year old cat today. My cat is her cat’s littermate, and although showing her age, is still doing pretty well. My mother lost her youngest brother just one week ago. I’m very sad for my mom…
The little ones were very talkative on this porch visit. They make way more types of sounds than I thought.
I see lots of raccoons and they usually come after the cat feeding time. My beat up Tom loves to sleep on my doormat, and sometimes is there for hours. A few days ago, a raccoon came looking for scraps but Tom was there. He seemed to know he could stand his ground and avoid a fight. He is a wise old man. Video is 1:40 but I wanted to show the full encounter.
I’m a 63 year old man and swim at my city rec plex. In the summer, sometimes camps of kids come for the free swim area and some of those camps are for special needs kids. Today, when I walked into the locker room, there were four teenage girls in there with the boys. It made me extremely uncomfortable. What was going through their minds thinking that was OK? BTW, there is a “family changing room” separate from the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
Then, I saw a woman spoon feeding apple sauce to a kid while they were IN the pool!
What is going on with people nowadays?
My elderly mother’s cat is the littermate of my cat. My cat is doing pretty well and has a good coat. My mother’s cat gets mats in her fur that have been selectively shaved off twice at the vet. She walks with a wide stance with her hind legs, so we assume she has arthritis and that is causing her to not properly groom. She recently started glucosamine/chondroitin, and it seems to help a little. In order to prevent repeated trips to the vet for spot shaving the mats, I’m thinking of getting her torso shaved. She is very skinny and I’m a little worried about her getting cold with a whole torso shave. She is a short hair domestic Tortie.
What are your thoughts?
A lactating momma has been a real pest at feral cat feeding time. I don’t mind her eating what’s left over after the cats eat, in fact I leave some extra for raccoons, opossums, and any other animals. But when she runs off the feral cats at the dinner time, I am forced to scare her off. She apparently got the message, and comes a little later after the ferals are finished. A few days ago she brought her kits in the morning (I feed the feral cats in the evening) and it’s just a pleasure to see them. No food remained, so they didn’t stay long.
First bike I bought for myself was a 1984 Honda Ascot which looked like a flat track bike but was an inexpensive mid size bike with some advanced features like shaft drive and a six speed transmission. After that was a 1987 Yamaha Fazer which was much faster and known as the son of VMax. Anyone have any experience with either of them? I loved them both. Note, both pics are snagged from the internet and not my actual bikes.
I have caught Tiger going in the cathouse a few times, and she loves to lounge on the porch when dinner time gets close. A few days ago, Tom went in for about 20 minutes after dinner and I caught a pic of him coming out. Of course, they both think they are Snoopy and love to sit on top as well. Just not both up there at the same time. I just love having the camera to see their antics.
I wanted to watch Firefly so much years ago and thought I had bought the disk to Serenity to watch after I watched Firefly. It was a hectic time in my life, and I forgot I bought a copy. Read that Serenity was on Prime and thought I’ll dig out the disk even though I don’t have a source to watch Firefly first. Much to my surprise, I didn’t buy Serenity years ago, I bought Firefly the complete series. The shrink wrap is still on it.
So I’m in for a binge watching treat for all of Firefly with a Serenity watch immediately after. I’ll start tomorrow.
😊
The beat up old tomcat “Tom” who started coming last summer kind of decided he owned my porch. He generally gets along with my female who actually owns the porch. Every few days, a black tom comes by for any scraps that remain. Once, he and Tom had a verbal face off but didn’t fight. Last night it wasn’t as gentle. I wonder if the black tom will try coming back.
