Hooray for cooler weather!

Hooray for cooler weather!

Temps finally broke about halfway through September, and Trip 2 is my driving for the whole month. Ever since about the 15th, only once or twice did a day’s driving didn’t hit 5 mi/kWh.

About 75% surface streets at the speed limit, 25% highway driving with about 25% of the highway driving in heavy rush hour traffic. OPD used.

Morning runs of about 17 miles round trip to get my son to school are often at 5.4-5.7 miles/kWh, when temps are in the 50s and 60s.

This is in Denver so SOME ups and downs for elevation changes.

Modern proof silver?

I was watching the Vermillion Enterprises video on YouTube today and Brian was mentioning that he doesn’t take modern proof silver, and lots of other dealers don’t. Apparently the concern is con artists plating clad coinage with a thin bit of silver.

Has anyone else experienced difficulties selling modern proof silver coins, or if you are a dealer, do you have a reluctance to buy it as well?

I ask because I have about $115 FV in modern proofs, mostly state and national park quarters, that I got for well under melt prices over a year ago - we are talking a good bit of that being quarters bought at about $5-6 per quarter. Also about 30 proof Roosevelt dimes and roughly 30 proof JFK halves. All are out of their mint holders and in tubes.

At some point I’ll want to roll them over into some gold, but would like options to sell other than pmsforsale if the need for quick cash comes up.

I wouldn’t expect to get any premium for them over the traditional junk 90 coins, but dealers like Brian from Vermillion not wanting them at ALL is a little worrisome.

(And if I sell via reddit I’ll put up a post over in the appropriate subreddit, im not selling here. Just info gathering.)

DCA up, DCA down. I still believe.

I’ll never time the bottom, so I’m just keeping on a schedule.

So satisfying to clink together in my hands.

Will they lose PAPER value over the next while? Quite possibly.

But the Morgan quadruplets there are staying in my stack for many a year…and will be worth a lot more than $50 each when they leave.

Spend $1000 to rebuild, or save up more?

Hey all - what would you do in this situation?

I have the bones of a PC I bought long ago - October 2020 - from Microcenter. To make it run again as a gaming PC I’d need RAM and a video card.

ASUS motherboard, with a water cooled i9-10900. It has handled with aplomb a GeForce 3080 ti in the past, which was sold off a bit ago.

So I’m thinking I’d need to get 32GB of RAM, and the best video card I could slap in there with the remainder of a budget of $1000.

Now…would you do that, or increase the budget to replace the motherboard and CPU as well, or pick up a ready to go box?

Years ago, I would be able to rattle off an absurd amount of tech specs and names for CPUs and such, but I just haven’t kept up with the tech recently. The i9 I have here was quite capable with the 3080 ti, but I know that replacing more could give me more flexibility and upgrade chances later on.
