I create large-scale bead embroidery artworks - one bead at a time
I create large-scale bead embroidery artworks, turning images into handmade textile pieces, one bead at a time. I work with thousands of tiny glass seed beads, carefully building colour, light, texture and detail stitch by stitch. My process begins long before the embroidery itself - I prepare and refine the image, develop the pattern, build the colour palette and test the bead combinations before starting the final piece. Each artwork takes months of work and can contain tens of thousands of individual beads. My current project, a large horse portrait, will contain approximately 109,500 beads when finished. What I love most about bead embroidery is the contrast between the tiny scale of each individual bead and the complexity of the finished image. From a distance, I want the artwork to resemble a painting; up close, you can see that the entire image is built from thousands of individual stitches. I'm sharing some of my work here because I’d love to show more people what can be done with bead embroidery as a form of textile art.
