With Al taking over more desk jobs, why aren't more people looking toward hands-on local businesses(like vending?

Lots of office-style roles keep getting disrupted by Al. I've noticed many people still only chase online side-hustles: freelance writing, social-media content, dropshipping.

Those online markets are already oversaturated. Algorithms can compete directly against you.

Local hands-on work such as vending, small property services relies on real-world relationships, site visits and on-the-ground execution. Software cannot show up to negotiate a location or check your machines.

It's not quick money. It requires boots-on-the-ground work. But the moat feels far stronger against automation.

Curious for your take. Do you think local physical small businesses will grow more popular over next few years? What's the biggest barrier stopping people from getting into this space?

how are you managing tech support on import machines?

I am considering purchasing new imported equipment, but the manufacturer is overseas. If there are any firmware issues, it will definitely cause a lot of delay
Can someone with experience tell me if this issue is handled by an engineer, remotely or online

At what age were you fully financially independent from your parents? (Not just paying rent, but off the phone plan too)

I often see people say they became "financially independent" at 18 or 22 right after graduating, but when you dig a little deeper, a lot of them are still on their parents' family phone plan, using their streaming passwords, or stay covered under their car/health insurance until 26.
I’m curious about the real turning point for people here: at what age did you cut the cord completely?

Do you ever negotiate a lower card processing fee, or just accept the default rate?

question on merchant fees. Most card readers like Nayax or Cantaloupe charge somewhere around 5.95% plus a monthly connection fee.
When you're starting out, that default rate seems pretty non-negotiable. But as your fleet grows or your monthly volume goes up, is there actually room to negotiate those rates down with the processor? Or is the vending space just too low-margin for them to care unless you have hundreds of machines?
Curious if anyone here has successfully cut down their transaction fees, and at what machine count or sales volume they started taking you seriously.

Is it necessary for small businesses to conduct market research, such as placing vending machines at new locations?

Having more information may help avoid losses, but it's uncertain whether it's necessary

High-margin obscure brands vs. low-margin big names: How do you balance your limited slot space?

Hey guys, I’ve been analyzing drink selection strategies recently and bumped into a classic dilemma.
Big brands like Coca-Cola or Monster sell quickly because of brand recognition, but the profit margins are no good. On the flip side, some local or lesser-known specialty beverage brands offer incredible margins, but they take much longer to move off the shelf.
how do you usually strike the right balance?thanks

may I ask if there is a need to conduct some in-depth research on the community before placing the vending machine?

For example, consumption power, age structure, and population quality, which seem to be related to market research and statistics

How do you guys handle "exclusivity" when pitching to local businesses? (Getting nervous about copycats)

I'm currently prepping to pitch my cold beverage/snack services to a couple of local spots (a medium-sized auto repair shop and a local gym. I've done my homework on their foot traffic, and both locations look like they could be very decent.
However, as I'm drafting my proposal, I'm getting a bit paranoid about competition.
What's the industry standard for securing exclusivity in the location agreement? Do you explicitly write into the contract that the property owner cannot host another vending machine or micro-market from a competitor?
I'm worried that if I don't include it, another operator might swoop in and place a machine right next to mine if my sales start looking good. But on the other hand, if I insist on an exclusivity clause as a small/new operator, will it scare the business owner away from signing?
Would love to hear how you veterans handle this. Do you always demand exclusivity, or do you only bring it up for larger locations?
