A game mode to turn off effects?

I'm new to KDE customisation. Got a pretty decent look going that I'm happy with. Even got wallpaper engine working. However I'm afraid there's too much going on and while idling my Rtx 4060 goes upto 40% usage.

I don't mind it (unless it damages my system)

However I was wondering if there's a command or a widget to enable "game mode" that turns off screen rounding and transparency. Something I can just turn on before playing a game

Using kde on cachy

Advice on building a CV

IMG here, studying for Step 1. I heard its really important to build up a CV. What do I do exactly? When/how should I do it? Ive just been focusing on studies and ignoring research work completely. About to finish my 2nd year of medical school (Preclinics). Planning on taking step 1 next year.

How important is it actually to build up a CV? Is passing and a good score (in step 2) not enough? What do I do exactly?

Im seeing my peers do lots of, frankly, pointless research work. It feels wrong to do research work just for the sake of it. Any tips to help me along the way? I dont wanna mess up after putting in so much effort studying for the exams

Finally got my hands on a T14 gen 2

Currently trying to set up a smoother touchpad and figuring out some battery settings.

Also finally decided to try hyprland. Loving it so far. Such a good machine

Picked it up from: u/StartledAccountant

Which distro do you run? (Also what model is it?)

I found a good deal on a T14 gen 2 AMD Ryzen 5.

Was planning on running Arch but heard it doesnt work the best with it.

So just surveying to see what people generally run on their Thinkpads

How to safely purchase used macbooks?

Im in the market for used/refurbished macbooks at a reasonable price. Everywhere I look I keep seeing people reporting getting sold tampered macbooks with altered parts. How can I be safe from these as a buyer?

Apple doesnt officially provide their refurbished macbooks in my country

(AMD) T14 Gen 1 vs Gen 2

I found a reputed reseller for these.

Ive heard lots of people saying good things about the 2nd gen T14. However the 2nd gen arent in stock anymore. Is the upgrade big enough that I should wait another couple weeks maybe? Or if theres only a minor difference Id just get it now

I plan on running Arch or Fedora on these. Ive heard the first gen acts a bit weird on linux

Is Macbook neo worth it for me? (First time mac buyer)

Requirements:
- Multitasking without any hiccups
- Typing needs to feel crisp
- Little to no heating
- Long lasting battery life

Use case:
- Should be able to hand 10ish browser tabs + Complicated LLM processes going on in another tab + Working on a huge obsidian vault at the same time + Anki (Flashcard apps)

Usually on my desktop all this would kill a 8gb memory

For my budget I saw 2 good options
- Macbook Neo 8/512 (New)
- Macbook M1 pro 16/512 (Used but with 6 months of sellers warranty)
- Macbook pro M3 8/512 (Used but with 12 months of sellers warranty)

Im a first time Mac buyer. Dont know much about Macs at all. Always been using linux.

Since I multitask a lot Im scared Macbook Neo might not be enough. But then again Ive heard good things about it being really efficient with its memory

I need it to last me another 4-5 years comfortably without any hiccups. What should I get? (Any other advice is welcome as well)

Looking for a laptop (budget 30k)

Do not want a gaming laptop!

Priorities:

  1. Firm build quality

  2. Keyboard needs to have a good feel to it, no bending

  3. Atleast 16/512

  4. System should be snappy

(Don't care about the os)

Location: Kolkata, open to it being shipped

Is Uworld worth it for me?

I do plan on attempting step 1 at some point. I dont have any rush right now.

My study routine has mostly been
Sketchy/Pathoma
Notes in Obsidian
Anking v12 tagged cards for whatever I get through on a particular day

Now my problem is I can remember most of the facts really well, but I struggle applying them in questions. I dont do very well in boards but if someone asks me whats the first line of treatment for C.diff I can immediately go Oral Fidaxomicin and Vancomycin. I understand the concepts as well like the "Why" but still struggle to apply them in patient vignettes.

I found the PDFs for Uworld and tried to do some of them. They seem really really helpful and helped with my understanding. So Im seriously considering integrating Uworld in my routine.

Question is, it being quite a bit expensive, should I invest in it or try to make do with the PDFs? Would I really be missing out on a bunch? I mostly saw people recommending Uworld to people woh are 4-6 months away from their test day. Would it be worth it for me in the long run with no immediate deadline?

Need a browser thats quick, polished and privacy focused

Hey so for the last couple years Ive been using brave. No problems but sometimes my logins would act weird in websites. Regardless I saw Zen getting really popular a couple months ago so switched to it.

I love it. Didnt think Id be getting used to the vertical tabs but I dont think I can go back now. I especially love how pressing CTRL+T opens up a floating search bar instead of a whole new page. And the glimpse feature is really handy as well.

The only thing with Zen though. It sometimes feels a teeny tiny bit laggy and buggy. Especially with the inbuilt zen mods

I tried duckduckgo again after a long time. Their search engine has improved a lot. Honestly prefer it to Google now. This brings me to another complaint I had with Zen (or maybe ddg? Not sure). Using it as my default search engine shows inconsistant results. Sometimes it loads instantly, sometimes it takes 10-15 seconds to load. Switching back to google makes it instant.

I was considering going back to Brave possibly. Maybe Brave origin? Its free on linux.

Anything you think I'd like? I do like customization but being fast and responsive is my priority. Along with privacy.
