I’m currently looking to switch careers to tax. I’ve mostly been applying to school leaver programmes that offer support towards CTA but I haven’t had much luck so far.
I’m curious to know what/where was your first role? What advice would you give to someone trying to start a career in tax?

I received an email from PwC in April, stating that I had passed all assessments for a tax trainee position, but that there was no further availability at my chosen office. They offered me the opportunity to progress my application with another office, which I agreed to.
The problem is I haven't heard anything back since. I have emailed a few times asking for an update, but have been told that they can't give updates on individual applications. I'm pretty sure at this point that I won't be receiving an offer, but I was curious to see if anyone has had similar experiences.
It feels really frustrating to receive positive feedback at all steps of the process and then not receive an offer. Is this common amongst the big 4? Surely it would make more sense to increase the threshold at which applications are progressed?
