Exemption on CIOT for CTA results

Is it true that, if exemptions appear on CIOT site and you are waiting for cta results, it is an indication you may have passed.

Has anyone checked this on their last sitting and it appeared, on results day it was a pass.

Just curious.

Looking for advice on moving job in tax

Hello

I have worked in personal, partnership and trust tax for 3 years now as a tax assistant, but with alot of experience of independent working and managing small client lists of 50ish clients due to senior absences.

I am 50% through my ATT course (fingers crossed for monday) and due to do my business tax and compliance exams in November.

Unfortunately my wife’s and my own family are getting older and are starting to need more assistance with not much support locally. We are preparing to buy a home soon anyway and have decided we will buy in our home county in the South West as we moved 3-4hrs away due to university and stuck about.

I am finding the job situation the most logistically challenging and would appreciate some advice.

I need to stick about at my current firm until im done with ATT due to fee clawbacks, but I know some firms will fund you to continue studies/cover this fee.

Does anyone know any firms/tax practices that are either fully remote, or cornwall based and mostly remote or hybrid? I want to avoid buying a home until a new role is sorted so if it is fully remote that means I could start sooner/if they let me start fully remote and are local to the area we move I can then work in the office.

Any recommendations would be great! I am pretty flexible as long as I complete my ATT. Just mainly would like to avoid moving home and job at the same time or having to rent while I pass probation.

Thanks!

ATT May 2026 results day

Only 5 days to go. How is everyone feeling for results day? It’s been such a stressful exam experience.

I’m feeling kinda nervous. Today I noticed the “My Results” page on the portal won’t open, so maybe they’re updating the results now. Fingers crossed I pass all three exams.

APS Course

I’m going to be doing the Case/APS course run by Tolleys happening the last week of August leading up to bank holiday which is in person. On the Friday I have a wedding to go to and was wondering if anyone knows what the agenda is that day? Like is it a mock exam or general teaching class and does it go on until 5:30pm? I’m trying to figure how I can make it and get ready for the wedding. If it was online it’d be easier because I could get ready during the breaks then leave as soon as it’s done or dial in on my journey but in person it’s tricky

CTA notes

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share their CTA Part 1 notes?

I'll be starting the course next year through work, but enrolment hasn't opened yet. I only started working in tax a few weeks ago, and it's my first office job, so everything is very new to me. I'd love to get a head start and understand the basics before classes begin.

A colleague has given me a few past papers, but without the notes I'm finding it hard to know where to start. Even just having something to read through over the next few months would help me feel a bit more prepared.

If anyone has notes they're happy to share, or even any recommendations for good beginner resources, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a million!

OMB or LCG

I am about to start the first CTA section of the ICAS CIOT joint pathway and need to decide between either OMB or LCG. The work I am doing is more tailored to the OMB paper but I can see myself going further down the route of LCG work in the long term. My firm hasn't given me much guidance and left it very much my choice to which paper I do. Would appreciate if anyone who has done these could give me their thoughts or anything further to consider before making the final decision.

Assistant manager salary for ATT qualified vs CTA qualified

I work at an independent mid size firm in Newcastle, and have been offered a promotion to Assistant Manager. I am ATT qualified with 4 years post qualification experience. I have been offered a salary of £36K for the new role, which is a 15% difference to CTA qualified friends/colleagues doing the same role. Is this normal? Is this the current market salary for a ATT qualified Assistant Manager?

What was your first role in Tax?

Hi guys,

I’m currently looking to switch careers to tax. I’ve mostly been applying to school leaver programmes that offer support towards CTA but I haven’t had much luck so far.

I’m curious to know what/where was your first role? What advice would you give to someone trying to start a career in tax?
