Away from home, will having my friend change my camera batteries without my phone present be possible?

I don't know how much longer my camera batteries will last. I am away from home and have my buddy checking in on my place. Can he just pop new batteries into my cameras when the batteries die or will there be some re-sync process that needs to be done? If so, will my phone with the installed app need to be present at the property to accomplish it?

Bringing a car as a MUG without a parking pass?

I live in the Midwest currently and I was planning on bringing my car for this upcoming semester. I am planning to pay to park it in a garage in the Bronx for my first month due to INDOC and whatever else. Then I am planning to park on the street off campus and move it every few days to stay legal.

Is this feasible? I am a veteran and have day student status so I should be able to leave campus after INDOC. I also have enough transferring credits to where I am technically a sophomore with the credits that transferred (I have enough credits to be a senior but they didn't all transfer into my degree course).

Driving my car to NYC is about half the price of a plane ticket, and I plan on coming back to the Midwest for winter break and I don't want to pay for a plane ticket or navigate the airports around the holidays.

To me taking my car seems like the best option unless you guys see an issue that I am not seeing.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone else have friends from their time in they're afraid to contact because you worry they are having a tough time and don't want to remind them of their shortcomings?

I went though reception and OSUT with two guys who were my best friends at the time.

One: likely had undiagnosed mental issues. When he was in a good mood he was great, one of the best guys I've met. When he was in a bad mood he was extremely dark. He got in some trouble for threatening our platoon. He told me a lot of very concerning things, things I thought I should report to the Drill Sergeants but didn't. Eventually he made a statement I absolutely had to report to the DS's the morning of a range day and he was immediately put on a no-weapon status and ended up being chaptered out. I don't blame myself but he did at first, he told me we weren't friends anymore. After a couple weeks though he warmed back up to me. The morning he left I broke ranks during morning formation without permission to help him carry his duffel bags and see him off. My DS saw what happened and understood and didn't say anything.

I kept in touch with him for a little bit after OSUT right up until I went on my first non-combat deployment. I had a great time on deployment and didn't want to reach out to him because I didn't want to remind him of what he was missing out on.

Now I I've been out for a year and about to go to a good college about 20 minutes away from his home town. I thought about reaching out but I am afraid he is still in that same post-high school lingering phase, plus mental health issues, and I don't want to rub my meager success in his face.

Two: dumbest guy I ever met but extremely strong, fit, and loyal. I truly love him like a brother. We kept in touch all throughout our enlistment. When I first got out I contacted him and told him about the job I got and the careers I was looking into. He told me he was getting chaptered due to pissing hot, fighting his sergeants (they apparently agreed to fight which I 100% believe), and getting caught in a bar after being told he had to keep his nose clean. He was getting chaptered, shacking up with a woman who already had a kid, and taking a low paying difficult job just off base.

I am less anxious about contacting Two because he has a very good nature but I worry he is living a tough life and is struggling financially.

Anyone else having doubts about reaching out to old battle buddies? What's your story?

...when I was in I had a platoon sergeant tell me he had an old army buddy who would occasionally reach out to him to ask him for money. That story stuck with me.

Does anyone know if the Post 9/11 GI Bill will cover the required uniform package or other fees?

It's a rather hefty charge, and required for attendance for my degree.

I am seeing conflicting information.

There are also a lot of other fees on my bill so far, only about half of it is tuition.

Can I use my VA Healthcare to get an examination and vaccinations for college?

I'm rated 90%, been out of the Army for a year, and have been pretty satisfied with my VA Healthcare so far. Can I use to for a required physical exam and vaccinations for college I am going to this fall?

How strict are they with extra personal hygiene items at INDOC? Also the MUG guide I downloaded doesn't mention facial hair standards?

I'm old, in my upper 30's. I have thinning hair and use Rogaine and take hair pills. I also have a tooth issue that requires me to use a water flosser. Is that going to be an issue? I noticed the MUG guide that I got in my welcome email said something like "students coming from more than 120 miles away may bring the following..." so it makes me think they are going to search my stuff and take anything not explicitly approved. I am coming from 1000+ miles away if that is relevant.

Also I've had a mustache for 10 years now and I am not looking forward to having to shave it. The MUG guide doesn't mention facial hair at all. I did see the facial hair guidelines for regular students on some document elsewhere on the website and I have no problem trimming it to standard, but are they going to expect me to shave my mustache as a MUG in INDOC?

The only time I've shaved my mustache since I've had it was when I was in infantry OSUT several years ago, and I still grew it out every month or so. My Drill Sergeants would let it slide for a bit then tell me to shave it. I memorized the exact page and paragraph of the uniform wear and appearance army regulation but of course, commander's intent and all that. So I am certainly not above having to take regulatory orders from people younger than me and I know how to do what I am told, but I also like to try to get away with what I can as long as I don't step on anyone's toes.

I just got my acceptance email a few days ago, exactly 3 weeks before the start date of INDOC. My Maritime Self Service account doesn't work (already submitted a ticket), I have a ton of things to get in order, and I have no idea where to look to have my questions answered except reddit right now. Don't be surprised if you see more dumb questions from me on this subreddit.

Any other transfer student applicants still haven't heard back? When's the latest I'll know if I was accepted?

I applied in late may. I've been in touch with the application counselor as recently as last week.

Really hoping I'll get in but worried on how to deal with the logistics if I don't find out soon.
