Starlink has been part of my lifeline through derecho damage/outage in NWI.

I live in Northwest, IN, and my area got hit hard by the derecho on Tuesday. There is no power or Internet as far as the eye can see (Lake County has 95% outages), and the Indiana National Guard is here. I count my blessings we have a generator, but the lack of Internet was harmful also, as I am a student and work from home, and as we all know, bills don’t stop just because of a national emergency unfortunately 🥲 My friend brought over his Starlink and I have to say, this thing has been a savior to me the last two days I have had it! I didn’t know anything about it prior to this storm event, and I am highly impressed with its functionality and reliability through the continued weather we have been getting here! Huge shoutout to this mini, which is truly a GIANT of an Internet device when it comes down to it!

Derecho that came through Northwest Indiana on Tuesday has left 95% of Lake County without power and no restoration in sight. Storms continue all week😞

We got his so hard (I live in Hammond, IN), and thankfully the National Guard were sent in today. There has been significant damage, power loss, and we have had to drive out of state to get gas for generators. The derecho (essentially an inland hurricane from Lake Michigan) has caused a continuation of lake storm weather best described as a meteotsunami they said. Apparently this is tsunami-like activity above the water rather than at seismic levels. It has been quite the week to say the least. This is the first day my phone has had a lick of connection. I hope everyone else in my area who may see this is doing okay. Other than spurts of phone connection, I have no idea what is going on out there.

Update on my outdoor boy: He now licks Churu off my fingers! 🥹

This little guy has been so friendly, but from a distance! He has allowed me to get close enough to take his photo numerous times, but he has progressed to allowing me to finger feed him Churu! (Tbh Churu wins most cats over lol!) I pet his head and he still withdraws, but will then continue to lick my fingers. He plays with the toys I give him, and he and my indoor cats are friendly with each other at the back door :) I can’t stop smiling!

“Mom, I frow’d up”

Her fascination with toilets is endless and has followed us to every apartment or home we have lived in lol

Young neighborhood feral lets me spoon feed, play with cat toys, sticks, and get this close now🥹

I recently moved to NW Indiana, and into my boyfriend’s house. He has had neighborhood cats that run around for YEARS and all of the neighbors and we put food, water, and shelters out for them. This little stinker lets me get SUPER close and interactive now, but black mama kitty always watches from a short distance away. I love living with neighborhood kitties 🥹
