Pirates of the Caribbean × Baldur’s Gate 3

Wanted to share a level encounter in the BG3 Toolkit I recently finished.

I’m a level designer working in the BG3 Toolkit and learning from Larian’s craft. I built this one around the swashbuckling chaos of pirate movies. The Toolkit doesn’t have many nautical humanoids or creatures, so I had to get a little creative with what was available.

The level is packed with explosives (and exploding ships), destructible planks and beams, lots of alcohol (or rum specifically?), small skirmishes, monsters, a touch of magic and, of course, hungry raptors! 😊

I spent about 10 weeks building this alongside another level encounter.

Tired, but pretty stoked with where it landed. I’ll post the reel for the second level later if you guys are interested. 🫶

Hear me out: Larian needs to make a Sci-Fi RPG 🚀

All the high-tech shenanigans, ships, exotic worlds, strange alien civilizations, monsters, factions. There’s so much they could go nuts with gameplay-wise.

And with how good Larian are at characters, stories and ridiculous amounts of reactivity, I think they could make an amazing space opera. Along the lines of Mass Effect, 40k, Tides of Numenera or The Expanse, but I'd want it to be their own universe.

Also, let’s be real: Larian would absolutely nail romance in space. 🌶️

What would you want to see them do with sci-fi?
