I’m a little drunk after celebrating the 4th for lunch and have an hour before a BBQ later so me and my buddy ended up randomly talking about survivor and built out a 50 cast we would’ve liked better that’s still realistic, with the exception of Taj but I think we could’ve gotten her if the right calls were made

Howd we do? Try to represent every era equal, have different types of players and only bring back players who still have something left to prove while keeping the balance of different archetypes spread around.

I, like many of you, was really disappointed with season 4s lack of answers and overall slow movement with the plot but the most frustrating thing was definitely the finale. I started thinking about what I didn’t like about it and what I would’ve changed and came up with some things that, in my opinion, would’ve helped utilize plots and characters that have been severely underutilized while also expanding the mythology and answering questions that it looks like now we won’t get answers to. Curious to hear what people think, roast me if you want! 

1. Fatima shouldnt have transformed into a monster. The idea of a main character turning into a monster is definitely a cool twist but it made no actual sense for Fatima to change. They built out a storyline for her already this season with her building the Gollum and her having the connection with Smiley. She didn’t drink Sophia’s blood until after she had the Smiley connection so it’s not as if her blood caused that connection. It could’ve been really fun to see how that connection played out next season and to give some actual significance to the Golum and her being the one to maybe control it or activate it next season. She just had to much other stuff going on whereas so many characters don’t have any storyline so for her to be the one to switch seems like a waste. Having said that….
2. I think it would’ve really helped the story a lot to have Julie breakout of her teenage angst mood and try story walking one more time in this episode. In my head, I think something that had potential to be really cool would be for Julie to time travel to the time where she, Marielle and Randall were all tied up and see the MIY with the three of them up in the tower. She freaks out but instead of him trying to attack her he says something menacing and tells her that the fun is just beginning and he pours some blood down Randall and marielles throat and when he goes to do the same to Julie’s tied up body, there’s something different he does to her. Not sure exactly what but maybe the BIW comes in and distract the MIY or Julie does something and she prevents her past self from drinking that much blood and that because she didn’t have the full evil dose, MIYs plan doesn’t work as he anticipated with her and it’s what actually activates and gives her the story walking powers. What exactly happens still needs a little work but I think it would be interesting to explain why randomly Julie can story walk and not like it’s just some fluke thing out of nowhere. For Marielle and Randall who got the correct dose from the MIY….
3. When the bottle tree is removed and the sky goes dark and the lightning starts, it activated what the MIY did to the two of them when he made them drink his blood and that’s them turning into the creatures. You could still have the emotional scene from Christie as she mourns the loss of Marielle after she sees her attack some random extra in town, this also gives Christie a storyline next season of having to witness her lover now turned into this monster and could have some really creepy traumatic scenes next season with Marielle taunting Christie. Meanwhile Randall, could have a full on feast in Colony house killing a bunch of the random townsfolk we have no use for while Donna finally gets the hero moment the shows been building to/hinting at the whole season and manages to save some people and trick monster Randall and get him outside and locked out.

 

I think those are the main things I would change, obviously there’s some stupid stuff still in the finale like Elgin not telling anyone else about Sofia but we can leave that tension for next season. I think this would have helped weed out some characters to streamline main season by “losing” Marielle and Randall, gives Christie something to do next season, helps payoff Donna’s storyline, gives Julie a much more interesting storyline while building out her adversary relationship with the MIY, help explain Julie’s story walking as something other than just random while expanding the mythology, and give some scary moments with Randall and Marielle turning and keeps Fatima around to have her smiley connection and give the Golum some significant. 

Overall still love the show just wish the quality was back to season 1 standards.
