anyone else just not care about pets since living on the sidewalk?
i ended up homeless because i suffered repeated trauma, became unable to function, and didnt have the support system required to stay housed. i was sober the whole time i was homeless until the very end when i did some pills and went into psychosis. i guess because i went into psychosis my family stepped up for me and now i live at home. things are fine i am working to recover. but i find it really hard to care about pets or do much to facilitate anything beyond their basic survival. my parents have 5 pets and a common source of friction is that i am mostly unwilling to take care of them.
i know eventually i should just relax and understand pets are a normal part of society and i hope in time i will get there, but i wanted to hear if other people had gone through something similar? i feel its so directly linked to my pain and rejection i feel from being homeless so i hope this is an appropriate place to ask. im grateful for how much mental health stability has already provided and i pray for more in the future
i also want to add that i know for some people in our shoes their pet is their saving grace when they really have no one so i know my reaction is only one part of the picture
thanks everyone for even taking the time to help me with what is really my own damn problem lol
tl;dr im wondering how many people noticed a major decrease in their ability to care for animals after being homeless
