Why does nobody warn you Deloitte is three jobs, multiple time zones and no end to the day?
Been at Deloitte about a year in consulting and I am worn down. I'll admit I was told workload would be heavy so I came in ready for long hours and a lot of deliverables. What they did not describe is what heavy actually means here and it is not more of one job. It is three jobs at once with nobody really telling you which one you are supposed to be doing other than this has to get done for the client.
Technically I have one role but in reality I am a architect, project manager and the developer all at the same time. I start the morning with status updates, spend the morning who gave updates that don't make sense or didn't give them. The afternoon is spent designing whatever solution and writing the code myself in the afternoon because that was supposed to be my actual job. I absolutely hate that we just generate requirements of thin air on old school conference calls and I have no idea how any one functions without recordings or teams transcripts.
The part I hate the most is nobody mentioned during hiring that project teams I work with are are in India and Ireland so my day starts when theirs is already almost over. That puts me waking up at 5:30 AM and I am expected to be sharp from the first call. The only way to survive that would be logging off early to recover. I cannot do that either since the firm contribution hours still need to get hit on top of client work. Normally, I'd go after for a drink but I'm too tired, need to sleep so I can wake up earlier the next day. Supposedly, this is suppose to be at team effort too and everytime I've tried get my skip or others involved they show up maybe once or twice then tell me they're stuck on client work.
Anyone else in the same boat? Does this get better or is this just the job?
