Looking for romance books where I actually get to see the couple be a couple 😭

I have a VERY specific romance niche and I'm hoping someone here gets what I mean.

I don't mind yearning, but I don't want a book where 18 out of 20 chapters are basically “I love you but I can't tell you” and then they finally get together in the last chapter 😭. I want to actually see the relationship happen. ALSO a little bit of smut never hurt anybody... 😋

I LOVE when the characters like each other, get together, and then we get to see them be in a relationship - dating, being affectionate, falling deeper in love, supporting each other, having cute/domestic moments, figuring each other out, etc. Basically, I want the “omg they're actually together and in love” serotonin.

A bit of yearning/angst is totally fine! I just don't want unnecessary miscommunication or 300 pages of them avoiding each other for no reason. I don't need the relationship getting together to be the end of the story, I want the happily-ever-after to actually be part of the story.

Some books I really loved:

  • The Love Hypothesis
  • Love, Theoretically
  • Love on the Brain
  • It Starts with Us ( it was like a nice little dessert after a weird meal [the 1st book] )

I know the first three still have quite a bit of yearning, but I loved the relationships themselves and would honestly prefer less yearning + more actual couple time.

For a TV example, Nobody Wants This is pretty much the vibe I'm looking for.

So please recommend me books where the couple gets together relatively early/mid-book and we actually get to enjoy them being together. Bonus points for lots of romance, affection and happy/domestic moments 🥹

I don't care about the trope as much as I care about this particular dynamic. Open to pretty much anything!

Please tell me if the couple gets together early enough that I get a decent amount of “they're together!!!” content. 😂

Mentally challenged people should not be left unchecked - they're especially dangerous for the being who can't even ask for help.

I said what I said. In the last few weeks, I've seen so many cases of animal cruelty by people who have some mental illness. And then they're obviously excused because well they're sick. Okay but what about the animal who was brutally attacked or killed or shot - unable to understand what he did to deserve this? We are so self absorbed, no one cares about anything else today. If we are the "superior beings", it should be our responsibility to take care of other beings right?

Watching Agents of Shield for the first time and Daisy is so annoying-

There have been horrible characters but I haven't seen one more annoying than Daisy ngl. Does it get better? I'm on season 5

The apocalypse can happen. A building can collapse. Aliens can invade. But I want the couple to stay on the same team and BE TOGETHER.

I need movie/show recommendations, but before that, I need to explain my weirdly specific taste.

You absolutely do not need to read this part (in italics) if you just want to throw recommendations at me.

First: I hate horror movies. Not "I don't really watch horror" hate. I mean genuinely hate them. They give me nightmares and my brain already works overtime thanks to ADHD and OCD. The last thing I need is a demon standing in my bedroom at 3 AM because I watched the wrong movie.
Second: I love spy thrillers. They're probably one of my favorite genres. The problem is that I need to be in the right mood for them because I actually have to pay attention. A good spy thriller feels like a treat. A bad one feels like homework. Also, if it's too slow or spends two hours building suspense, I'm out.
Which brings me to rom-coms, my comfort genre.
Here's the thing: I absolutely cannot stand romance movies where the couple doesn't end up together.
I know some people find them beautiful and bittersweet and realistic, but every time I finish one I'm just sitting there thinking: what do you mean?
You're telling me this person is supposedly the love of your life, your soulmate, your once-in-a-lifetime connection... and then you just don't end up together?
And I'm supposed to find that romantic?
We get one life. Why are we romanticizing not being with the person you love?

I also don't love relationship drama for the sake of relationship drama. The whole "I'm not good enough for you," "we had one misunderstanding and now we're breaking up," "if we simply talked for five minutes there would be no movie" thing drives me insane.

What I do love is when the couple is solid and the world is trying to tear them apart.

Give me external conflict.

The apocalypse can happen.

A building can collapse.

Aliens can invade.

Society can be against them.

Their families can be against them.

The entire universe can wake up and decide these two people should not be together.

That's great.

But I want the couple to be on the same team.

I love "the couple vs the world."

I hate "the couple vs each other."

So:

  • No horror.
  • Spy thrillers are welcome.
  • Rom-coms/romance preferred.
  • Happy ending required.
  • Couple ends up together.
  • Minimal miscommunication drama.
  • Maximum "us against the world" energy.
  • Bonus points if it's funny, wholesome, or leaves me feeling good afterward.

What should I watch?

For reference, I loved Nobody Wants This, Off Campus, Heated Rivalry (ok there was a little confession delay but still), also the third season of XO Kitty when they were all communication is key-ing.

ALSO, MY FAVOURITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME IS NIMONA, so if someone loved it and knows other similar shows/movies, they are very much welcome!!

I JUST realised Citadel Honey Bunny ( the indian version ) was about Nadia's (Priyanka Chopra) parents????

Do I have to rewatch everything? Can someone else please give me a quick recap of Season 1 of both Citadels? Also is the Diana one also connected somehow? I think I forgot everything.. 😭
