Are drum brakes worth a DIY?

Parking brake stuck on me today, managed to get it unstuck but that means my rear drums on my 19 TRD Sport RWD are due for repair. They have 113k miles on them so yeah.. a little overdue. And I just know they're rusty and dirty in there. Been putting them off because I always hear about how "tricky" drums are.

Wondering if people think they're worth doing myself. I usually do any repairs myself but I've never touched drums. I've done my own spark plugs, front disc brakes, u-joints, driveshaft bearing, and regular maintenance.

Watched a few videos on them and they don't seem so bad.. am I missing something? Shops and parts have only gone up in price over the last few years and I hate spending money for someone else's time when time isn't an issue for me right now. But is it worth the headache? Let me know. Thanks!

Healthy food is NOT more expensive than junk food, and people that claim that only use it as an excuse.

Oftentimes, at least in America where I am, I hear complaints (usually from overweight people) that healthy food is too expensive, hence why they're buying frozen food and junk instead. I am tired of hearing this nonsense. In my eyes, it's truly just an excuse to be lazy and nothing more.

There was a time I was much heavier, buying lots of junk. Potato chips, cookies, donuts, ice cream, and frozen dinners/snacks were frequently on my weekly grocery bill. I was spending a lot of money on food that provided little to no nourishment. Didn't help I was also working at a grocery store at the time, so most nights during the week, I was coming home with pints of ice cream and chips.. my "drug" of choice lol. That adds up QUICK whether people want to admit that or not.

Nowadays, I'm counting my calories and tracking my macros, so I'm buying whole, real foods 95% of the time. Sometimes I'll buy kettle/baked chips or some kettle corn. ONCE IN A WHILE I'll make half a batch of cookies that I struggle to even finish eating after a week. My grocery bill is roughly slightly less than when I was binge-eating junk, and that includes my meats for the week as well: salmon, mahi, lean beef, chicken, and lean turkey. A 3lb bag of sweet potatoes costs me under $3 and lasts me and my SO over a week. I shop smart in order to get better deals on my groceries, buying foods I eat daily in bulk. Aldi, Sam's, and Costco are my best friends. Frozen broccoli and other veggies, bulk meats, cottage cheese, yogurt, RICE, and some fruits are cheaper sources of different vitamins and macros, and it will fill you up and keep you full. In turn, you're eating less as well.

Back to the point, people like to use healthy food being "expensive" as an excuse because they can't be bothered to spend time in the kitchen, and let's be honest, junk food is addictive. People addicted to junk usually don't want to buy healthy food and change their habits. The way I see it, whole foods first, and any other treats/ junk food should be treated as a privilege.

These people simply do not want to change their habits, and that's what it boils down to. Yes, sometimes cooking, especially if you are providing for a large family, can be time-consuming. However, it can also be very simple and easy. Majority of my go-to high protein low cal meals take 30 mins or less to make. It's all a bunch of bogus excuses, and no one will ever be changing my mind.

GLP-1 is one of the most unhealthy ways to lose weight.

The 'Ozempic pandemic' has grabbed ahold on so many people now. Almost every person has at least one person in their life that they know of that is using GLP-1s to lose weight, and it is one of the worst things you can do for your body.

You will not only lose fat, but also bone density, muscle mass, your hair, and your ability to produce adequate and healthy bowel movements (BMs). While I understand everyone's story with it is different, these are some of the anecdotes from GLP users I have read about.

Back in the day, it was diet pills. Now, we all know now that these are not good for you. What's the difference with GLPs? Whether it's a weekly injection or daily pill, you are signing up for poison. Meanwhile, mind you, diet and exercise is generally free (unless you're paying for a gym membership--but that is something worth paying for imo).

I understand many of these GLP users struggle food addiction, and yes it can be hard to block out the food noise, I know from experience. I hear that GLP helps with this, but there are much healthier (not to mention cheaper) alternatives.

A lot of people on GLP are not changing their eating habits. Instead, they think this shot/pill is a magical thing and they can drop the weight without changing their diet. I know someone who is on this and I've seen their eating habits. They still indulge in junk food, which is fine, HOWEVER, when you're eating significantly less calories in a day and most of your cals are from processed junk with horrible macros and no protein, you're going to start withering away. You should still be eating sufficient protein within a day while you're on GLP.

In my opinion, GLPs absolutely have the potential to cause eating disorders with some of these users. What happens when you're no longer on GLP? Without a diet change, many users will go right back to where they started. OR, the significant lack of food intake from the pill/shot might cause users to have a bad relationship with food after GLP. Nothing that requires legitimate hard work can ever be replaced with a simple, easy fix that you can just buy online.

I (F) am about 5'7", and at my heaviest back in January, I was a little over 200 lbs. Seeing this number on the scale was my wake-up call. I am now over 30 lbs down. How? A calorie deficit, exercise several times a week, and eating healthier, whole home-cooked foods and meals. I did not give up junk, though. It truly is all about moderation. I have my chips and ice cream, but much smaller portions than before. After doing a consistent deficit, I am spending much less on food and I can feel how much my stomach shrank when I try to eat a whole 1200 cal fast food meal like how I did when I was heavier. I cannot finish it anymore. GLP seems to do this on a much more aggressive level. Whereas my deficit has allowed my body to adjust over time to my lower food intake amount, GLP users feel this immediately and jump right into it even though they're used to much higher quantities of food at a time. This cannot be good for your stomach, among other things.

At the end of the day, I really want some people to reconsider what they're doing to themselves. There have already been health issues linked to GLP usage, and plenty more to come.

**This is NOT to make myself seem like I am better than everyone else because I didn't use GLP to lose weight. I think this should be talked about. I know everyone's story with it is different, and I am not saying all of what I said applied to everyone, so please keep that in mind.**

Genuine Toyota differential fluid or another brand?

Please ignore the stupid question guys. I apologize in advance. 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport.

I need to change my differential fluid asap and I was wondering if anyone has any good/bad experiences with different brands of differential fluids. This is my first vehicle with a differential (RWD--refrain from judging me pls).

My question is, should I stick with Toyota genuine diff fluid or get an aftermarket brand? Before you ask, I do not use genuine Toyota oil for my oil changes, I use Mobil and she's never failed me. But I usually get all of my parts straight from Toyota. I'm just not sure if this is one of those things.

Any direction helps. Thanks!

Driving in Oahu (specifically Waikiki)

Aloha!

This trip was my first time on Oahu, we stayed in Waikiki but drove all around the island. I'm a native Floridian, so driving in traffic is never an issue for me lol. What I did find interesting and I couldn't find any information on was how once you enter the city areas, specifically Waikiki, a lot of the right lanes randomly turn into parallel parking spots with no signage, no warning, no notice telling drivers to merge. I just wanted to create a discussion about this. I find it shocking that it hasn't caused an accident (as far as I'm aware). I've never seen this anywhere else and it would never fly in Florida, too many idiots on the road in the swamp. Florida drivers can barely merge with signage as it is.

I guess my question is, has this posed as an issue for people? And I understand the roads need work, I see a lot of 'complaining' (for lack of better terms) from locals online that Hawaii doesn't seem to be putting tax dollars into their roads to better them.

Mahalo for reading & replying.

No Pickup Trucks Allowed!

This is my first "fight" with an HOA.. kinda nervous. Mind you, I don't live in this HOA condo complex, but my girlfriend and I are visiting her family at their condo that is managed by an HOA. Been coming here for years, never had an issue, always spending the night with my "big ridiculous truck" (stock Tacoma) parked overnight.

Well, the other day I woke up to two boots on my wheels, forced to pay a ridiculous fee to get them taken off. The reason, you ask? It's a pickup truck. THAT'S IT. That's the sole reason. Never knew there was so much hatred out there for pickup trucks that there are communities that have them banned from parking. Allegedly, I am "allowed" to have it parked during daytime hours, but overnight is forbidden. Never got notice, never heard anything from the family members that I visit here, just straight to a boot.

On top of that, the property manager/HOA board member is straight from hell. Threatening me and my girlfriend that we need to leave, targeting and nitpicking the residents we're visiting, lying to our faces, and more empty threats. There's so much more about her I could say. She only became an issue after the whole booting situation. I've been keeping a log of all of her behavior with dates and times, since she has turned to blatant harassment.

This is not asking for advice, just to share my recent story. Planning on reporting her to the state soon once I have all my ducks in a row.

I'm interested to hear if anyone else has or is dealing with a similar issue, specifically with the whole pickup truck ban (again -- not asking for advice! Just sharing stories). I'm in Florida, and I actually just read about how two years ago, FL implemented laws preventing restrictions on pickups (https://www.fsresidential.com/florida/news-events/articles/6-questions-to-assess-your-parking-policy/#:\~:text=The%20revisions%20to%20the%20law,have%20a%20right%20to%20park.) .. I guess the pickup hatred in FL has been ongoing for some time now. Couldn't tell you why.

Nonetheless, this confirms my suspicions with ever living in an HOA neighborhood.
