PSA: save your money, stay away from KastKing pliers

First I bought the KastKing speed demon pliers (first picture), they’re great looking and it’s a well known brand. After ONE time on the kayak, and just two bass, the handle started to fray. I had tiny little orange particles all over my hands and kayak an clothes

I sent KastKing an email with pictures, I did get an apology and “thanks for the feedback” response but I bought them on Amazon so I had to return them that way. I did and got refunded.

Next I bought the KastKing cutthroat pliers (second image). I’ve had them for two weeks and it’s starting to rust, the like cutter barely works now, and it feels very flimsy (like parts jostling around) when using them

Hope this saves you some time, money, and hassle

Anyone have recommendations for good pliers?

I measured everything before buying a modular kayak to see if it would fit in my VW Passat. Here’s what I found

After a year of fishing from the bank, I wanted to get a kayak… and spent a ton of time trying to answer the question, “Will any kayak (with a prop drive) fit in my 4 door sedan?”

I drive a 2015 Passat, it’s paid off and runs well, so I didn’t want to spend money on a truck, and I didn’t want to mess with roof racks

I measured every part of the car (trunk opening, rear doors, shoulder width, folded seat length, etc… all at different angles) and compared those measurements against several Reel Yaks models before deciding which to buy

I ended up getting the 9.8 Rocket model, the pedal/prop drive version… and surprisingly, with maybe 1-2 inches to spare, it DOES fit in my car

Figured I’d share it here because I couldn’t find a single post or video on this. Reel Yak’s whole claim is that it can fit in a sedan but I couldn’t find anything relevant. I also came to Reddit to get some insight if anyone had experience but also came up blank

If anyone has questions about transporting it, the measurements I took, or the kayak itself, I’m happy to answer them

I also filmed the whole unboxing, assembly, and sedan fit-test so if anyone wants to see the process let me know

Prop gears and pedal gears look different, is it rust?

On the propeller drive portion, the gears look silver/clean metal. Then the top part of the drive, the gears for the pedals have a brownish/rust looking color.

I had shared feedback to the kayak customer service team that i was feeling some resistance in pedaling on my second time out compared to first time out with the yak. Im having to put in double effort now and it doesnt feel smooth.

They recommended I take it apart regrease it, which I did… but the day after it still felt pretty rough to pedal.

Any suggestions?
