Title, i guess

Hey all o/

I've been mountain biking for a few years on and off with a school program that provides bikes, and since I've mostly stopped growing, I'm looking to buy a bike for the first time. After talking to my town's local shop, the guy there recommended a Trek Marlin. I'm looking at both the 5 and 6, with both in my price range. I was wondering if the 6 was worth the extra ~$150 for the added durability and features? for the most part im going to be riding high beginner - medium intermediate trails, and not racing. I live in/around the appalachian mountains so I'll probably be doing most of my true trailriding there. I'm open to suggestions for other bikes outside of the Marlins, they were just what was recommended to me.

TLDR: low intermediate rider asking about the differences between Trek Marlin 5/6 for casual trailriding.
