Are you guys updating to the latest BIOS as soon as they become available?

So, it's been more than a year since I went back to AMD after running Intel exclusively for about 10 to 12 years, and honestly it's been amazing, the performance has been rock solid on every game I've played.

I do have noticed something, what's with the insane amount of UEFI/BIOS updates for AMD motherboards? with Intel, I saw maybe 1 or 2 BIOS updates every year or so, but with AM5, I've seen a new BIOS almost every couple of weeks.

Should I be updating to the latest as soon as they become available? what is the right move here?

Thanks.

Thinking about switching from 9070 non XT to RTX 5080, but have couple of doubts.

Specs:

  • 9800X3D
  • 32GB of Corsair DDR5 RAM @ 6000MHz
  • Radeon 9070
  • One (1) 2TB M.2 PCIe SSD
  • 1 Corsair 240mm AIO CPU Cooler
  • 2 200mm fans
  • No LEDs.

I've been using a 9070 non XT since April of last year, and frankly its been a joy to use. Absolutely no issues whatsoever.

But just last month I got a 1440p OLED monitor (coming from an 1080p Fast IPS panel) and naturally my FPS took a dive, still getting very playable FPS, but the difference is very noticeable vs 1080p, which I perfectly understand since we are talking about 70% increase in pixels.

So I've been thinking about going with a RTX 5080 since the 9070 XT is only around 10% faster than the 9070 non XT, and the RTX 5080 is around 25% faster, but I do have a couple of questions before I make the switch:

  • My PSU is a Corsair RM750e 1st Gen with the old 12VHPWR connector (although according to Corsair the cable on their units are the same whether they are listed as 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6), would this be enough to fully power a 5080?
  • Also, what would be the proper way to eliminate the risk of the 12VHPWR cable overheating? are there new cables that need to be purchased separately?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
