Who needs glass?

Took a piece of lava rock from UT, covered it with moss harvested from WI, and some single ferns from my grow box for this build. Sits in less that 1/4” of water. The rock is porous enough to wick water to the surface. I put down a wet layer of spaghnum moss before covering it with the green. I made sure to stuff some of it deep as possible into the lava stone. I added a fittonia clipping and it is doing well too.

Can you over tumble?

Working my first batch of stones. I’m using a Lortone 33B and finished the first stage of 60/90. Had the stones in for a week. They were already pretty smooth due to Lake Michigan taking care of that for eons. We pulled them out, quick wash and a few needed more time in stage 1.
If one were to go longer at this or any stage, say 2,3, or 4 weeks, are there any issues to anticipate? Outside of removing additional stone material, any challenges for future stages?
This has been a journey of learning. Just ordered another Lortone, a 45 this time for a few larger pieces we want to polish. Thanks in advance for your help.

Latest and greatest!

Spent a few hours putting this one together. Found the glass at a thrift store. Mosses and rocks picked by me.

Black light fun

Got a new black light for some other hobby of mine and while playing around I noticed the plants fluoresce in my builds. Cool pic if nothing else.

Little palm trees

I was out in the back woods area of WI and came across an area of moss that I got a few pieces from. There was a strange “moss” growing among them that looks like little palm trees. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Good things in small packages

Tried going smaller for some builds at home. Wanted some for a window seal in our bathroom. The frosted/crackle glass has been great at keeping the light diffused. These were made in early spring and are already needing some trimmings.

Wall sconce build

Found this wall sconce for candles in the clearance section and decided to go a different route with it. Simple builds in unusual containers takes our passion for terrariums to new level. Positioned it to get indirect light a couple times of day (east/west). Can’t tell off the pictures as it not raining now.

Maintenance time

Just a few shots after some TLC. I have managed to keep that schefflera on the small side to keep the light all the way to the floor of the build.

My zen after a day of work!

Who else finds building pieces so relaxing and centering? Made with intention, it’s like part of you becomes embedded with the terrarium.
The glasswork was on the clearance rack. All the moss harvested myself. All plants are from my propagation boxes.

Surprise!

Was away for a couple weeks and came home to this beautiful flower. False African violet put off 3 small flowers. This build is about 3 months old. Did a little trimming, some new springtails, a spritz and closed back up.

All the surface moss is from CO/UT. There have been a few plant hitchhikers that have popped up too. Everything else is from my propagation stock. I had to purchase an acrylic disc to cover the glass that came from a second hand store.

Been rock hounding in Colorado and Utah the last several days. Here is my bounty for upcoming projects. Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated.
