mushroom growing in my cork topped bottle terrarium

mushroom growing in my cork topped bottle terrarium

hi! i only have one terrarium and don’t know much about the hobby so have a little question please.

i received this terrarium as a gift about two years ago and it’s been slowly growing away in my bathroom. because of all the crazy sun in the uk recently it all of a sudden boomed up the sides and now this bright yellow mushroom has grown! does anyone know what it is? is it safe? it’s kept on a very high shelf, sealed in my bathroom, but i have cats so don’t want to keep anything that could be harmful.

thank you!

Enclosure use

My.mom bought me some plastic enclosures she found on Amazon. She thought I could use them for something. Any idea what I could put in these? I had some coconut fiber lying around so I put it in then

Open real-estate

Technically, this is my kids' toy shelf. Also technically, every surface in the house is their "toy shelf" 😅

So my thought was 20g long on bottom, move the isopods in the globe terrarium there. Globe turns into a shrimp tank. Leave middle shelf for toys (only a few toys come out at a time on rotation anyway) ...or?

My husband built this shelf then reinforced it when the 10g was a betta tank so its pretty solid.

What would you do?

Josh's Frogs

Hello, I am attempting to start my first terrarium, I was looking at Josh's Frogs for things to buy, but I saw some people say the quality is bad and things will be dead on arrival. Is this true, and if so what's another website I can buy all of this stuff on. Also, are all of the plants I picked out going to go well together, thanks.

mi beloved Knight — Tips on taking care of him? 🌿
Hey everyone! This is my fallen Knight terrarium, and I’m still pretty new to taking care of him, so I’d love some advice/tips!
I’ve been getting used to keeping the light on for around 8–12 hours a day, but I’ve been pretty busy lately and haven’t been as consistent with it as I’d like. Is that something I should be worried about, or is a little inconsistency okay?
I was also wondering how often I should be pruning him. I don’t want to overdo it, but I also want to make sure he stays healthy and doesn’t get too overgrown.
Any other general tips for keeping him healthy and looking his best would be greatly appreciated! Things like watering, lighting, humidity, pruning, or anything I might be overlooking.
Thanks in advance! 🌱

My first isopods and my first post here!

I decided to get isopods! They finally arrived recently, and I moved them into their new homes!

The species I have are: Armadillidium vulgare "Magic Potion Orange Dalmatian", Armadillidium werneri, Porcellio sp. (Spain, Sevilla), and Armadillidium granulatum "Sicily"!

I already love these little guys so much and hope they'll like it here with me!

What do you think of my terrariums? Anything you think I should add or remove?

Looking for Collaborative suggestions

Looking for Some Collaborative suggestions

I have had this terrarium set up for a few months but I still feel like things are missing or out of place.

There’s spaces that can be filled and some plants that aren’t taking advantage of the space in the way I thought they would, like the syngoniums.

I am considering removing the begonia but my dart really enjoys the big leaves and sleeps on them at night.

I was thinking of making it entirely green like a jungle or at least trying to fill in the background.

I was looking for some suggestions of what species of plants other people would use or think would work well for what I have rn.

Thanks.

Hello everyone, I have asks, please, help me

I built this terrarium 3 days ago; it wasn't designed to be pretty, but rather to be a biological terrarium. However, I added some termite queens (which I had captured about 2–3 months ago and kept frozen during that time), and a fungus sprouted and started consuming them. I looked it up, and sources say this is normal. What do you think about it? Also, the fungi are forming "webs." (And do you think this terrarium has a future? P.S.: The soil came from my backyard.)

Only took 8mo to complete and 2 months to remember to post this lol

The terrarium stand that came with the 4x2x4 collapsed under the weight. So I purchased a furniture grade aquarium stand and it's been holding up much much better. Lots of things I would do different on the next one but I think it turned out pretty dope.

New found hobby of mine

I recently built my first ever terrarium on a mini bowl and was very much fascinated in the process of making it -- the layering of substrates, soil, stones, mosses, etc.

As I delve deeper into this hobby, I wanna know how you all feel about this piece I made and rate it from 1-10 (perhaps throw in some points on what to improve on also?)

Thanks!

Tissue culture help!!

I have two tissue cultures currently in the container. They’ve been in there for about three days. Today I noticed they weren’t looking so good and realized the holes at the top were open all the way. I think it’s been like this for less than 24 hours, but it’s still done some damage. I’ve closed the top, but wondering if anyone has any tips to making sure they don’t fully die? How long should I wait to open it a little bit? Should I spray some water inside to create humidity again? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Centerpieces were a hit!

Most of the army is temporarily back in the greenhouse in my basement until they are claimed but I had to "steal" one to put on display ♡ Didn't have my phone on me the day of the wedding but if the photographer got a pic I'll share it!

First terrarium

Hey guys, this is my first terrarium and I have a couple questions. I live in the pacific northwest so I wanted to make something mimics my backyard. I went for a more natural look. Most of the terrariums I see are somewhat tropical and usually have similar plants with each other. I was wondering if because I used plants taken directly from my backyard and it being a more temperate environment, there is anything I need to do differently maintenance wise. Also any suggestions on making it look better are welcome!
Thank you!

A carpet of Yuukianura aphoruroides… but can you spot the unwanted guests? 👀

A carpet of Yuukianura aphoruroides… with a few unwanted guests 👀
At first glance, this culture looks pretty great – basically a living carpet of Yuukianura aphoruroides (“Yuukis”). 🟠
But if you look closely, you’ll notice a few white tropical springtails running between them.
A good reminder of just how easily cultures can become mixed.
In my case, the reason was surprisingly simple: one ventilation opening wasn’t properly secured, and unfortunately this culture was sitting right next to an open terrarium containing those exact white springtails. 😅
Apparently, that was enough.
The Yuuki colony itself is doing extremely well, but I wouldn’t consider this particular culture “clean” anymore.
That’s also why I keep multiple independent cultures of important species and regularly check them for unwanted hitchhikers. It’s something I’m putting a lot of emphasis on with my TerraNidus cultures.
A huge colony is impressive – but keeping cultures clean and correctly separated is just as important.
Lesson learned: check your ventilation, don’t underestimate wandering springtails, and always keep backup cultures. 😅

First terrarium!!

I know I haven't done well in the layering T__T But the layering is there :)

I've used a few couple of wood chunks I picked up from our backyard as the bottom layer (hoping it would absorb water) and accompanied with a layer of pebbles, then dirt, some moss I picked up, and a few more stones for design as well.

I keep them inside my room most of the time under my LED lamp, I let it out often. This is its 2nd day.

Tips are appreciated!

Has anyone bought from Perfect Plants.in?

Ordered a terrarium from there, haven't heard anything yet, has anyone had an experience buying from them?
