Anyone here have a 2022 Tundra that had the engine replaced under recall? How has it held up since?
I’m looking at buying a 2022 Toyota Tundra SR5 CrewMax with the 3.4L twin-turbo V6.
The truck has 53,328 miles on the chassis, but Toyota replaced the original engine under recall 24TA07 at 39,072 miles, so the replacement engine has about 14,250 miles on it.
The previous owner appears to have kept up with dealer service, and the service history also shows several other recalls/campaigns were addressed:
Engine recall 24TA07 — full engine assembly replaced
Fuel-line recall 23TA09 / 23TB09 — interim repair followed by permanent fuel-tube/clamp repair
Transmission-control recall 24TA02 — software update for potential movement/creep in Neutral
Electronic parking-brake recall/campaigns 22TA11 and 23TC06
Engine ECU campaign 22TC08
Tonneau-cover recall — appears to have ultimately received the updated mounting hardware
My main question is for anyone who has had their V35A 3.4L twin-turbo engine replaced under this recall:
How has the truck held up since the replacement? Any knocking, oil issues, leaks, check-engine lights, cooling problems, repeat engine issues, or has it basically been trouble-free?
I’m especially interested in people who have put 10k–30k+ miles on the replacement engine.
I’ll admit I’m getting a little discouraged by how much negativity there is online around this generation of Tundra and the new V6. I’m trying to figure out whether buying one is genuinely a questionable financial decision, or whether some of the reaction is amplified because Toyota had such a legendary reputation for reliability that anything short of bulletproof now feels like a huge fall from grace.
In other words, did Toyota actually build an unusually unreliable truck here, or did the Tundra just come back down to the reliability level that a lot of other modern full-size trucks have already been at for years?
Would really appreciate firsthand experience, especially from owners with recall-replacement engines.
