Anyone working at Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean? Looking for help breaking into this Software Development Engineer role

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to connect with anyone who currently works or has worked at Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean VA especially in engineering or software development.

There’s a Software Development Engineer role in McLean that I’m really interested in and I’d appreciate any advice insight or guidance on how to best position myself for it or get my application noticed.

A little about me I have a Computer Science degree and have been actively applying and interviewing for entry level and early career software roles. I’m specifically trying to break into backend or full stack development cloud or anything in the software engineering space.

If anyone is willing to share what the hiring process is like there what skills matter most or even potentially refer me or point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.

Computer Science Graduate Looking for an Entry Level Tech Opportunity

Hey everyone,

I’m posting here because I could really use some guidance or local insight.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Mississippi State University, and I’ve been actively job hunting for over a year trying to break into entry level IT, software development, or really anything in the technology field. So far I haven’t been able to land anything, even after multiple interviews, and I’m starting to hit a wall.

I also have 5 years of technical support experience working at Amazon, where I handled customer support, troubleshooting, and technical issue resolution in a high volume environment. I’m comfortable with support work, system troubleshooting, and I’ve been trying to transition that experience into a more technical or development focused role.

At this point, I’m open to entry level IT roles, help desk, junior developer positions, QA, or anything that could help me get my foot in the door and build a career in tech.

If anyone in the Jackson area knows of companies hiring, has advice on local opportunities, or even knows someone who might be willing to connect or refer me, I would really appreciate it. Even small leads or suggestions would mean a lot right now.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Any Gov Tech Professionals Looking for a Mentee?

Hey everyone,

This may be a long shot, but I figured I'd ask.

It's been a dream of mine to move to Northern Virginia and build a career in government technology. I recently earned my B.S. in Computer Science and have about 5 years of technical support experience from Amazon, where I helped customers troubleshoot technical issues and developed strong problem solving and communication skills.

I'm trying to break into the government tech space and would love to connect with anyone working in the industry who might be willing to mentor someone early in their career. I'm especially interested in learning about the skills, certifications, technologies, and career paths that are most valuable in GovTech.

I'm not looking for a job or a referral. I'm simply looking for guidance from someone who has already walked the path I'm trying to take. I'd be incredibly grateful for any advice, mentorship, or networking opportunities.

Thank you for reading. I hope to call NoVA home someday.

[astro-seek] Will I get a job, my own place, & sort out my finances soon? Any tips or advice on how to get to a stable life

Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone might be willing to look at my chart and give me some insight into what I'm going through.

The last couple of years have been extremely heavy. I lost my brother to a violent tragedy, and the grief has completely changed my life. Since then, I've also lost other family members and have been trying to carry a lot emotionally while still moving forward.

I graduated with a Computer Science degree and have been struggling to find stable employment in my field. I've gone through interviews that seemed promising but ultimately didn't work out, and the constant waiting and uncertainty have been difficult. It feels like I'm putting in effort but not seeing movement, especially in my career.

I've also been having a very difficult relationship with my parents. Since becoming unemployed, our relationship has become increasingly strained. I often feel judged, unsupported, and emotionally drained by the situation. Home no longer feels like a place of peace, and one of my biggest goals is becoming financially independent and moving into my own place.

Lately I've been feeling stuck, stagnant, and frustrated. I keep wondering if I'm in a temporary holding pattern or if there's a larger lesson or cycle happening in my life right now.

Some of the questions weighing most heavily on me are: Will I finally secure stable employment soon? Am I nearing a breakthrough in my career and finances? Will I be able to get my own place and create distance from unhealthy family dynamics? Are there any indications that this long period of delays and setbacks is coming to an end?

I'm open to honest feedback and would appreciate any guidance you see in my chart. Thank you for taking the time to help.

I interviewed for a software engineering role with Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Group on April 13th and was actually the very first candidate they interviewed. I felt like it went pretty well. The next day I followed up asking the recruiter to pass along a thank you to the panel but didn’t get a response. About 7 days later I emailed again for a status update and still got no response, so I called 3 days after that and the recruiter told me they were still interviewing and didn’t have any updates. That was on April 17th and I haven’t heard anything since, but I also haven’t received a rejection.

At this point I’m unsure if I should reach out again or just keep waiting. I don’t want to come off as pushy or annoying, but I also don’t want to sit here not knowing if I’m still being seriously considered. For those who’ve been in similar situations, would you follow up again or leave it alone for now?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on a situation I’m in with a local job process and I’m not sure what my next step should be.

I interviewed for a software role on April 13th at Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Group (home office in Ridgeland, MS). I was actually the first candidate they interviewed for the position, and I felt like it went pretty well overall.

After the interview, I sent a thank-you message the next day. I also emailed the recruiter asking if she could pass along my thanks to the interview panel, but I didn’t receive a response. I followed up again on the 21st and still didn’t hear anything back. On Friday the 24th, I called the recruiter directly to ask for an update, and she told me they were still interviewing candidates.

It’s now been almost a week since that call, and I still haven’t heard anything further. I also had someone who works at the company reach out to the interviewer and recruiter to put in a good word for me.

I really want this job and I’m trying to be respectful of the process without coming off as too pushy or impatient. At this point, I’m not sure what else I should or shouldn’t be doing.

For anyone familiar with hiring processes like this, is there anything else I can do right now to improve my chances, or is it just a waiting game at this point? Any insight would be appreciated.
