Lost parakeet Newburgh, NY

Anyone missing a budgie in Orange County, NY? Please contact me if you or someone you know is looking for their baby :/
We are currently on our way to go try and catch him if he is still around. He was last seen on a fence and then in a tree next to a small brown sparrow or other songbird. Wish us luck.

Distressed/ill/sick hummingbird found in middle of night (NY)

UPDATE: A hummingbird specialist in NJ called us a couple minutes ago and we’ll be dropping her off today! So grateful we have an actual hummingbird rehabber within an hour’s drive. So lucky!

Before anyone refers me to the sub guidelines—I have tried contacting several avian/general rehabbers but it is the middle of the night.

At about 11pm when my fiance came home, he found a hummingbird struggling near the light on our apt complex landing. She was flittering and hitting the ceiling of the outdoor apartment landing, and then breathing heavily with eyes closed and wings splayed out when she landed on either fire alarm on the walls. We took her inside and are providing dark, warm shelter for the night.

She appears to be missing several tail feathers and exhausted or concussed at the very least, or gravely ill at the worst. We have also been having a MAJOR heat wave over the past several days. I have never cared for a bird with such high metabolism, so I have no idea what to think of her breathing. She is currently in my cockatiel’s small travel carrier but I am looking for a rehabilitator who might have hummingbird experience.

Any advice or comments on her general respiratory rate/appearance in the meantime while we wait for a rehabber to contact us? Thank you, and sorry for being all over the place with my explanation. I’m usually asleep by now.

Disclaimer: I have seen the terrible accidents that have happened. This is why I feel torn here.

I need advice about a foster dog my sister is watching that would otherwise be a perfect fit. He’s disabled (like me) and is a super calm and sweet adult pitbull. He is new to missing one leg and one eye, so his mobility is impaired. He’s 9 and surprisingly calm.

I have a cockatiel that I love VERY much and feel very protective over. I got him before meeting my fiance. My cockatiel saved my life after several really bad years and I spend all of my time with him. I cannot work, and I spend my time at home most of the time.

My fiance, unfortunately, does not love having a bird, but I will never let go of my son. It’s been a point of tension, but he does his best anyway. He has wanted a dog for a VERY long time. He seems generally unhappy day to day and I wish he would’ve developed a bond with my bird, but he gets overstimulated easily by the noise and feels unfulfilled without a pet he can hold, bond with, and cuddle with.

We live in a large apartment with one large bedroom, a smaller hobbies room, and otherwise a large open space including the living room, hallways, and kitchen. My bird’s cage is in the living room and he free roams for a large part of the day in the living room.

Everyone around me is trying to convince me that I could make this work by alternating “out” time if the dog turns out to have a low prey drive as it appears. They are obviously not bird owners. Aside from having a bird, he is a perfect fit for my lifestyle. However, I’m scared. My bird comes first and I don’t want to sacrifice his quality of life

I have a feeling this will be split down the middle, but can I have some feedback please? I’d like to hear from all types of people. Am I being too strict? Is there space here for the right dog, especially a disabled one, or am I right to be so cautious?
What have others done in situations with a similar partner?

I’m new to machines with basic hand sewing skills. The photo is just to show what I’m working with here. I love that I’m learning, but I’m struggling. Sewing the gathered skirt to the bodice was a nightmare that required the entire thing done using the hand wheel only, even after buying a walking foot to try). The needle would hit the metal plate, or get stuck in the fabric, and/or skip the stitch if it went through on its own (it was fine when I wiggled it through by hand/the wheel).

I read the whole manual before my project, so I’ve done all of the basic things: rethread, reinsert bobbin, clean the bobbin case, new/different size needles (used a 90/14 on the gathers and same problem. Switched to 80/12 for this double hem), and played around with the settings which I admittedly still struggle to understand.

One layer is fine, but changed to black (same brand-Coats & Clark) and fold the hem over and we have a problem. I even bought a hump jumper to try with these various issues and it’s probably not the right tool for the job. On top of that, the black thread is experiencing more resistance for some reason and it feels oddly tight as I try to pull more out of the needle at the bottom. I was playing with the top left dial to combat it but that’s probably wrong.

I have very little energy and patience what with chronic back pain and I’m losing my wits. Is it me, or is the machine just not strong enough?

Edit: We live in an apartment with outdoors entryway/landings.

I found the first one on my NECK last week in the bedroom. Then, on the bedroom carpet. Now that they’ve found my cockatiel’s cage, I’m feeling extra icky.

They’re big and I’m scared of them. I see posts where people have recommended Terro stations, but those are for normal, small ants. What do I do? I don’t want to hurt my bird :/
