Ted Chiang fans: What keeps you coming back?

For those who love Ted Chiang’s work, what do you get from his stories that you don’t get from other science fiction.

If you were recommending him to a friend who had never read him, how would you describe the appeal in your own words?

Thank you in advance for any feedback

Are there readers who want speculative fiction that explores similar topics as books like The Power of Now?

I’m doing some reader research and wanted to ask this group a question.

There’s a large readership for nonfiction books about spiritual awakening, presence, nonduality, and the nature of consciousness. Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now is is is an example of this. As is Ram Dass’s Be Here Now.

I’m curious whether there are also readers who want those same themes explored through speculative fiction.

If an author were to pull off a novel, complete with character, plot, atmosphere, worldbuilding, etc, on these topics without it being a thinly disguised sermon in story form, would readers be interested?

I’m asking partly as a reader and partly as a writer trying to understand whether this overlap is a real reader category.

Are there readers who love speculative fiction and also care about spiritual awakening, nonduality, or the deeper nature of consciousness?
