Criminal Record from 20+ Years Ago - Can I Enter Canada?

20+ years ago in the US, I received 3 misdemeanors, 1 of which is considered a felony in Canada.

Back in 2008, I tried to go to Canada, but was turned down at the border and was told that I would need to go through a process (rehabilitation?) to be admitted to Canada, and the process would require jumping through a ton of hoops (getting fingerprinted at a local police station to subpoena my criminal records from another state, etc..), so I just never did it and never tried going back to Canada.

So it's now been over 20 years since the last offense, and it would be nice to finally visit Canada, but I do not know if I still need to go through all these hoops and apply for a permit/rehabilitation/etc..., or if enough time has elapsed where I would be able to drive through the border?

Does anyone know what I need to do to finally visit Canada? I heard that once you were flagged (like I was back in 2008), you're flagged forever, but that if 10+ years have passed then you can be deemed rehabilitated.

If anyone has guidance on my situation, or knows of a way that I can get total clarity on how to proceed, it's much appreciated. I really don't want to gamble on another attempt of driving through the border.

Help Needed Please! Need ideas for light kitchen remodel/refresh

[editing post to indicate that we're not trying to do a full MCM style update in the kitchen, but rather use MCM as a general design guide]

Hi all - we're looking to update the kitchen in our MCM-ish style house, and was hoping to get some feedback from people who have much more design sense then we do. We live in Seattle and can't afford a full kitchen remodel, and instead are looking to do the following:

  • change the cabinet color
  • change the wall color
  • replace the stupid marble tile that's used for both the backsplash and countertop with a quartz/quartzite countertop and tiled backsplash
  • Ideally, update the ugly 3-basin drop in sink to a single basin large undermount sink
  • Add pendant lights above the "island"?

The kitchen is part of a large open floor plan, and I'm including pictures of the full space so you can see what other areas are visible at the same time as the kitchen.

Would love to hear from folks what color schemes would work well for the wall/cabinets/countertop/backsplash, with using MCM style as a general guide, but honestly, we just want something that will work well with the warm toned floors, and jive with the adjacent dining room color scheme.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What I'm hoping to get some feedback on are some MCM-ish options for the changes-in-scope listed above, and whether or not the backsplash should go up to the ceiling or not.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Noob Installing Door Casing - Drywall 1/2" Proud of Door Jamb

I'm in the process of replacing the old crappy 1970's trim room by room in my house, and of course the drywall is almost 1/2" proud of the door jamb in the first room I'm working on. I've been researching ways on how to proceed, as my understanding is 1/2" gaps are way too big to fill with caulking.

Would love to hear from the experts on what is the "right" way and what is the "easier" way. I'd like to do a decent to good job, but I don't need perfection. Based on my research:

  • I could pound the drywall to condense it, but I think that no amount of pounding is going to condense by 1/2"
  • I could extend the jamb by ripping primed pine or similar, and use glue and/or 18 gauge nails to float the jamb, and then attach the trim to the jamb. If I go down this road, I'll need to buy a table saw (which is fine)
  • I saw someone on YouTube use a foam backing rod and wood filler to fill the gap.

Any advice or recommendations is much appreciated, thank you!
