Remember this show? Well, this was an adult-animated show that aired on HBO from 2016-2018. But what if I told you that this was originally indie?

The show originated on Channel101NY, and was on there from 2012 until 2013, when the show was screened at some film festivals (the episode pictured above is from that original Channel101 run).

In 2015, the first season of the actual show premiered at Sundance, and it was fully indie (apart from the Duplass Brothers' involvement). HBO picked the show up shortly after.

The creators of this show are Mike Luciano and Phil Materese, and the later episodes are available on HBO Max (Watch Animals | HBO Max), while the earlier indie run is available on Channel101NY's YT channel (Animals - YouTube)

i know season 1 was in widescreen, but i feel like the first season was originally made in 4:3.

The scenes shown here look like they were originally made in 4:3, but were cropped to 16:9.
