Confused about breastfeeding and cosleeping

We’re at a loss with sleep for my 10 week old so are looking into trying co-sleeping.

I’ve looked through the lullaby trust guidelines and so on but I can’t find a definitive answer on if it’s safe to fall back to sleep while baby is latched while co-sleeping? Can anyone point me to an answer please?

Thanks!

ETA: thanks all for your responses! Tried co-sleeping the other night and chose to stay awake while LO was feeding as I’d rather stick to UK guidelines and it’s still fuzzy on if it’s recommended or not. Ended up being a non-issue anyway as LO didn’t take to it and still wouldn’t sleep 😂

Baby carrier and sun protection

LO is 8 weeks and will no longer stay in the pram bassinet for long. I’d like to baby wear when we’re out and about - any tricks for keeping him protected from the sun? I’ve got a sun hat for him of course, but not sure how to keep his legs and feet protected when it’s too warm for leggings and socks.

Thanks!

Cold water sterilisation - help!

Currently feeling like a complete idiot because I can’t figure out what to do with bottles and pump parts after they’ve been in the Milton cold water steriliser.

After they’ve been removed and rinsed, how do you dry them? Or do you just not and use them wet? 🤦‍♀️

Also, once removed how long do they stay sterile for or should you keep them in the solution until ready to use?

TIA!

When/how to start pumping and intro a bottle

Hi all,

My LO is nearly 4 weeks old and exclusively breast fed. I’m keen to start pumping and introduce one bottle of expressed milk a day to give myself a little respite and get him used to having a bottle.

I know NHS recommends waiting until BF is established at 6/8 weeks for this, but I’m considering starting sooner as have heard from friends that their babies then refused a bottle so it might have been too late to intro a bottle.

I’m wondering if your LO is EBF, when did you introduce a bottle of expressed milk and how did you go about it please?

TIA!

Worried about 4 week old’s circadian rhythm

Hi all! Firstly I know newborns have no circadian rhythm, but I have also heard that you should do things to help them establish it at this age.

LO is exclusively breastfed and has only ever slept on mine or my partners chest, meaning we’re taking the nights in shifts so we can stay awake while he sleeps on us. Because we need to stay awake, we don’t use low lighting, white noise, etc, and there’s currently no differentiation between day and night for baby boy (or for us tbh, the days and nights are a total blur).

How badly are we setting ourselves up for failure by doing this, and how can we help LO develop his circadian rhythm while also making sure we’re staying awake while he sleeps on us?

TIA!

Newborn night 5, more cluster feeding?

Advice needed please! I’m a FTM exclusively breastfeeding my 5 day old.

He cluster fed nights 2&3 as expected before my milk came in. We then had a more chilled night last night. Tonight (night 5), the cluster feeding is back with vengeance and baby is quite whingy during the very small periods between feeds.

I’m not worried that he’s not getting enough as he’s gaining weight really well and midwife checked my latch today. He’s really hating being put down and I wonder if he’s just using BF as a bit of a dummy?

Any advice on how best to get through this please? And is more cluster feeding this soon after the last lot normal?

TIA!

When to put car seat in the car?

Hi all, just looking for some general advice on when to put the car seat in the car ready (currently 37 +4)

I’ve also seen some guidance that says once fitted, don’t keep it in the car in case you have an accident. In that instance, can you keep the isofix in or should that come out for the same reason?

TIA!

EDIT: thanks everyone for your help, going to play about with it and fit it so we know how to do it and then remove until the big day :)

Hi all, FTM 36+3 over here so it’s starting to get real!

Starting to think about the practicalities of having a new born (I know the basics) are there any apps or websites that people recommend that give a weekly/monthly view?

I’m thinking something in a similar format to the pregnancy apps that gives weekly info on potential milestones, activities we can start to do with them, etc.

TIA!
